People who wear clothes that are just too small...

It's not just men/larger/older people who do this. I normally enjoy watching Design on a Dime on HGTV, but I just cringe when Kristen Cunningham is the designer. She is pretty small, in her 20s and needs to learn that if there are creases on your clothes, they point to where the clothes are TOO TIGHT. Her blouses/tops need to be a size (or TWO) larger. I'm watching for design ideas, not to see her bust.

I wonder why people do this... it really is not that attractive...

What gets me is the older ladies trying to wear the new fads. Give me a break! Know what you can and can't get away with! And have the common sense to not wear what you can't and looks ridiculous on you! :teeth:

I'm watching that show right now! They are sitting at a table and her sleeves are puckering because her arms barely fit in them. Weird!

I've noticed that this tight fit seems to be the trend - I just don't get it. It seems especially weird on people that are really trim - it's obvious they're buying them that way.

You got to look at it this way as well. When people gain weight, maybe they can't afford to go out and buy a new set of clothes. I know you have some people that try to fit into clothes they know are smaller.

Hey Lachesis00:wave:

Every summer w/out fail there are girls in my part of town that will try to wear the same clothes as there much smaller friends....I saw a girl who had on a short skirt that was too small for her because it kept riding up in the back and she had on a shirt waaay too small....Each summer around here the clothes of these girls gets shorter and tighter and sometimes i just wanna go to them and pull them to the side and say to them that the needed to get the next size..or two.

I have a girlfriend who wears her clothes pretty tight, form
fitting let's say. She picks on me because I wear clothes that
are comfortable, she says I look sloppy. Better sloppy that
not being able to breathe!!! I just tell her thanks for her
input, I don't have the heart to tell her she looks poured into
her clothes. She's proud of the way she looks. She does have
a nice petite body for a 50 year old woman but she still dresses
like we did in junior high school.

Well, I know of the women you are all referring to and I do think it is pretty revolting. BUT.....I am having a real hard time trying to find some clothes. Went on a shopping trip yesterday:mad: and it was not pretty.

Now, I am 40 years old, 5'7" and weigh about 145 lbs. I am not fat, nor am I considered skinny. According to my friends I look about 35. I am not interested in wearing low-rise jeans, skimpy shirts, layered camisoles under a "baby" polo shirt, etc.

That was all I could find. In addition to that, I cannot find a T-shirt that will make it down to the waist of my pants, so whenever I bend over half my back hangs out. And while I'm not fat, I do have a small "roll" on my stomack and it DOES NOT LOOK GOOD in low-rise jeans.

And have you been to Banana Republic? The clothes there are cute but the material is so thin/sheer that if you've got one ounce of fat on your body, it will clean to it.

As for the girl in the home improvement show--I feel her pain. I am broad shouldered and broad around the ribcage. You know those blouses/shirts that are called "stretch"? You know they are either long sleeve or 3/4 quarter sleeve and they are a cotton lycra mix. Not one will fit me. They are squeezing my arms like a vice and they are pulling across my chest so everyone can see my bra. Now, I wear a 36/38 B cup. Please. I look at the people who do wear them and they have these nice little tiny arms and narrow shoulders.

So, while some people might not care what they look like, others are forced to wear things they shouldn't. I spent 3 hours in the mall yesterday looking for clothes appropriate to wear in my office. I ended up with 7 T-shirts for Old Navy. NOTHING for work.

Just ticks me off. Clothes just feel like they are made cheaply now. And it shows.

I also think that there is a sort of "reverse anorexia" disease out there. You know how anorexic people look in the mirror and think they look fat?? Well, I think that sometimes overweight people look in the mirror and think that they look slim! I think that some of us see the body we had 20 years ago!! Our reflection isn't keeping up with reality!

But I also agree that with today's fashions sometimes it is hard to find a nice, modest fit!! It is VIRTUALLY impossible for me to find regular jeans for my daughter (8), that aren't LOW RISE. I dont' mind the flare bottoms, but I am constantly telling her that I can see her butt!! I have managed to avoid that for myself however!! And I try VERY hard to make sure that any shirt I wear stays below my waistband, even if I have to raise my hand. I can't stand my fat rolls showing every time I move!! YUCK!:crazy2: Anyhow.... just my 2 cents!..................P

Christine, you're describing me except that I'm 5'4" and a little bit higher in the 40's age range. :teeth:

I've been losing weight but I still wear my same clothes and refuse to go a size smaller. Unless I lose two sizes. I rather have my clothes loose on me than tight. A little air circulation is great between you and your clothes.

A co-worker of mine has good taste in clothes (she's 30ish) but they're too tight and they detract from her total look. People notice the tightness before the style and sometime comment on it. She just smiles and shrugs.

You're right about difficulty finding nice styles at the right fit. Here we have consignment stores and I have found nice and even new clothes at a good price. I also go to Filene's and Marshalls. It either hit or miss when I go clothes shopping. :o

At a restaurant I recently had lunch in, the waitress was telling another customer (but loudly enough that the whole restaurant could hear her  ) that she used to be a size 8 but now was a 12...yeah, right, whatever you say lady. She was poured into her jeans and shirt. She was more like a 16.

I never thought of that... thinking you look thinner then you are...

Thats too bad about the gal w/nice taste but clothes too tight. :(

And I was excited to go shopping next week (when we're in AZ) however now I am getting a bit scared LOL. I have lost about 60+ pounds (last count it was 65 but I stopped weighing in) and yet I am not teeny tiny.
And why is it they make these skanky clothes now a days? Even for older folks who have average size bodies? I would love to know who the designer is or who makes the clothes decisions for each store.

I am just glad my son's clothes fit (teenager). Pants not hanging off... or dressed like a hoodlum. He isn't preppy but not... icky either.

This bothers me a lot, and I have to put up with it on a daily basis. I teach 9th grade, and the young girls are trying to fit into the HS environment, so they try to let it all hang out. I report this stuff to the office as quick as possible, so they have to go down there and arrange for a change of clothing to be brought from home.

Another thing that bothers me is girls that don't really know their size. They try to squeeze into S, and M's when they should be in L or XL's. I'm not small by any means, but at least I know what fits.

I feel sorry for these girls, because I know I am not the only one with this opinion. I often hear kids snickering, or poking fun. No matter how I try to deter it, it will continue as these girls continue to dress like this. After everything, they still think they look 'good'. Then again, it's attention they want, it's attention they get, whether its good or bad.

Funny this topic came up. Just yesterday my DD and her friend were telling me about the new "clothes check" at school. The female principal comes around to all the girls everyday and checks to see that the clothes aren't too small.

She has pulled girls out of class who have shirts on that come up a bit in the back when they sit down. I think that's a little extreme. Now if they come up ALL OVER, well, then that's a different story.;)

I just have to wonder how adults can't know how bad they look.... LOL Kids I can see wanting to fit in (not that it's right). I know my friend's husband *knows* but he is such an @$$ I think he does it just to irritate people and embarrass his wife.

I have a couple tee-shirts that *fit* but they roll at the bottom for some reason. They drive me crazy. How anyone who is...not tiny could enjoy having skin exposed... is beyond me :D I feel creepy when it does it.

Our school gives girls a little slack, but it gets out of hand when I have to stare at guts and butt cracks.

I so much prefer to have my clothes loose and comfortable... even when I was tiny in high school I never wore tight fitting stuff.

The tighter the stuff, the fatter it makes you look.... Jeff and I always have a quiet comment of "I guess they didnt check the mirror before they went out!". How can you possibly look (or feel) good when your bulges (no matter how small) are showing?

We also notice that the fashions today make even the thinner people look "fat".. or at least paunchy.

I hope this too shall pass!

Yuck, I wonder what these designers are coming up with next. Especially for summertime.

I'm not getting the lasik eye surgery that's so highly recommended. That way at least I can take off my glasses when I don't want to see anything. It'll all be a blur. :teeth:

Amen to that! I notice this every time I am out. I have only noticed it on the younger girls though, not older women. If the clothes were the right size, they wouldn't look fat. But, as it stands now, they do. I would never be comfortable that way.
