makes me crazy. There should be a list first State wide, then Nation wide of habitual people who clog the courts. There may be already ??? however with SOME liars/lawyers they encourage them. Of course TV ads of this wrong or that wrong should be under litigation. Dishonest folks and lawyers both come out if they win. I have a "friend" and her husband who have done this their 30 plus yrs. of marriage. Now their grown children r suing everybody and anybody too. Truly we are fearful to be around them or them comimg to my home. They may sue my homeowners insurance for whatever. She is a nurse and he a disabled civil servant of the Air Force. They go on extravagant vacations and have a VERY nice home. I know its from their dishonest gotten gains.:crowded:

If I knew this, then they wouldn't be coming to my home. :sad2:

If what you are posting is true, then I wonder why you would have anything to do with these people. Keep in mind that there is no way you know the true story of any lawsuits they have been involved in unless you personally were sued by them or have read/listened to court transcripts. I'll bet you haven't.

Perhaps you should find new friends.

Remember, just because someone is sue happy does not mean they always win. Whenever people complain about how silly some lawsuits are I just think about how we hardly ever hear the outcome. How many are tossed out by the judge? And just because it looks silly or fraudulent to you does not mean it is. You don't have all the facts.

If these people really are sue happy and you don't agree with their actions why do you socialize with them?

I had a friend that did that. Notice the "had" part.

She had an attorney on retainer. She had him sue the poor person who rear-ended her car, it was a tap and no damage, but she got something around $80k from the insurance.

Then, at work, we had some speed bumps put in. We all knew they were there, knew that they criss-crossed where we parked, but they were painted black primer as their painting was going to be the following weekend. Again, we all KNEW this due to having us re-assigned for parking and the schedules were posted. Returning from a group lunch, she "trips" over one of the speed bumps and gets $75k. The end result was that they should have been painted white first.

I asked her about this, why on earth would you sue the company where you worked? She said she was entitled to find any and all things wrong and everyone should capitalize on it. She was surprised I had never sued anyone in my life.

That's annoying :headache: I would just do my best to avoid these people as much as possible, and I certainly would not want to have them at my house for fear of becoming a target of theirs.

I work in insurance defense, and the frivolous lawsuits are unbelievable. We had a case involving a 20-something year old who was in a wreck and claimed he was disabled due to a neck/back injury. We got photos and videos of him surfing and then playing two straight hours of raquetball in addition to other activities over an extended period of time. The entire time, he was getting massive amounts of narcotics, shots and chiropractic care and claiming he just sat around his house due to the pain. The case went to trial, and the jury gave him enough to cover his ER bill after the accident, nothing more. He owed his attorney money for all the bills he had run up to build his case.

Another had a slip and fall at a store. He claimed high loss of wages because he could not work any more due to back pain. Got him jumping wakes on a jet ski on the days he was in too much pain to go to work. He pursued it to trial. I think he netted two thousand after paying his attorney and the medical bills he had run up.

These are just 2 examples. Indeed, there are "professional plaintiffs," whose names we see again and again. Many claim they have not had any prior injuries or accidents, which is easy to check.

If you are genuinely injured, you should be compensated, and chances are that you will be. For others, there is no conscience.

And no, I would not allow someone who was known for that behavior on my property.

I would stay as far away from them as possible. People like this think it's OK because the insurance companies are paying out, so why not.

Back when I was about 20, I had a friend from work. She was in her early 30s or so. She meets this guy and I didn't like him from the start. One night, we're sitting around having drinks and he starts telling stories of all the restaurants, etc that he's sued (and won) --- one of his favorite tricks was to go in the men's room and if there was water on the floor, he would take water from the sink, wet the back of his pants and then go out and say he slipped/fell in the water and is hurt, please call an ambulance. He would get a free meal and, later down the road, a few thosand dollars. Sickening.

I called him on his behavior and told him exactly what I thought of him (he didn't even work). Of course, it ruined the friendship I had with my friend but "oh well".

I had a coworker like this. Actually I think it was her DH, but she willingly went along with it. The sued a hotel and won around 100k because she slipped getting into a hot tub. She also tried to sue work because she slipped in the parking lot. I think that he encouraged that and we convinced her it wouldn't be a good idea to sue your employer, especially since she wasn't that great at her job.

I worked as a case manager for an insurance company. There was a couple that worked there - husband as a supervisor, wife doing secretarial work. When he was an auto supervisor, she was involved in an auto accident, and was out over a year, unable to work. He was transferred to liability, and she had a slip and fall at one of the stores we insured, and was out 18 months. He transferred to worker's compensation, and she slipped and fell at work - by the time I left, she'd been off work for over two years out. Of course, she was able to manage the house, doing housework and shopping, and take care of her kids at home, but not do even light office work.
The joke around the office is that they were thinking of transferring him to life insurance.

The folks that abuse the system don't recognize that their drain on the system hurts those that really need the help.

I felt sorry for the people who were working two jobs to make ends meet, who would get hurt at their part time job. Their worker's comp benefits would only be 2/3rd of the salary of that second job. There were a few folks that I could tell were so desperate that I'd arrange our meetings to be at a restaurant and I would pick up the tab out of my own pocket. I'd order an appetizer and an entree, and send them home with my untouched entree in a doggie bag, saying I was too full and couldn't carry the doggie bag around in my car for the rest of the day.

My company (self-employed) hired a drive-away company to transport a truck to the port in CA. Instead, their employee took the truck ($50K) boom truck and used it. Of course, he broke it in the process. The drive-away company had the nerve to sue me for the $2000 we agreed to pay for them to transport the truck. We counter-sued for $325K in down-time and other expenses. In the end, they paid us $10K. It is crazy that people sue for money they are not owed, but they need to be more careful who they go after.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Oh, their insurance also replaced the truck...

A young teenager steals a car, wrecks it and sues the guy whose car he stole for personal injury.

IT HAPPENED. Believe it or not.

Your friend would have to sign a waiver every time she came over for a visit.

I have a former friend who sued a homeowner whose home she was looking to buy.

She was almost 9 months pregnant and was supposto be on bedrest 24-7.....Instead she used the time to go looking for houses....

The homeowner she sued had a big fenced in backyard. While she was out there, she walked over to the side of the fence to say hello to the neighbors dog that had come up to the side of the fence. She had to step over one of those pvc picnic chairs to say hi to the dog, and in her flip flops ( and don't forget she should have been home, on bed rest ) she fell over the chair she was trying to step over and broke her ankle in such a way that required her to have a full leg cast, and now a scheduled c section for her baby.....

They MADE A LOT of money with that lawsuit ( millions...) After she had her baby she had to have surgery to properly set her ankle.....She and her husband went on to BRAG about the money they got from that injury and went on to buy a mcmansion with the money.....I SOOO wanted to let that poor homeowner know just that little bit of info that she was on dr's orders for bedrest, and never should have been there in the first place....I am a believer in karma & I'm just waiting for it to come back & bite her in her big A$$!!!!!!!

Just curious...why didn't you? (Although I'm not even sure it would have made a difference.)

That's not too far off from what happens to police officers. Example, kid steals a car and in the process of driving too fast to get away from the police, hits another car. The person he hits sues the police dept.

Many years ago, I was in the convenience store business (bad investment decision on my part). We had a lock on the front door that required the clerk to activate or release the lock for the door to open. Since the lock was magnetic most people didn't know that it was in use.

One day a very observant clerk realized that a thug was about to grab a case of beer and run for the door, a common occurrence. So she activated the lock. Sure enough, the teen grabbed a case of beer, ran at the door full speed ahead with one hand out... He hit the locked door, beer when everywhere and he went down. Oh it was great. We watched the video over and over.

Turned out he knocked himself out and broke his outstretched arm. He was arrested. He entered a guilty plea and got probation. However, his family sued me and my insurance company. I was prepared to fight this in court when my insurance company SETTLED with him. Then my insurance company told me that if I didn't remove the lock they would cancel me.

You can't win...
