there was a thread on the budget board from someone asking if joining dvc was worth the money.

so of course, the nondvc members vehemently insisted dvc was a total waste of money, etc etc, and slammed any dvc member who dared state any dvc positives, and seemed to imply that dvc members are zealots pushing our dvc "religion" down others' throats.

anyway, it makes me wonder if the reason people post those type of questions on other, nondvc forums is to only get the negatives of dvc, to try to either talk themselves out of buying or to feel better because they passed up the opportunity to buy in.

it certainly does not seem as though they actually want to hear the positives. but I see it this way, if dvc membership were so worthless, why do so many members, not only stay members, but add more points on.

just a thought.....

Next time that happens, just post the link to the thread here, and I'm sure lots of DVC members will post their experiences, so the thread shows some balance.

I have seen it here and on other forums too. Someone has an idea in their head and they want to hear "reinforcement" to that idea so they post in a place they KNOW will give them that reinforcement. I like the idea about a link. I do have to add, we joined DVC mainly because we are a family of six and would always have to get 2 rooms and the DVC units are much more comfortable for us. If we only had one or two kiddos I'm not sure that we would have bought, or it would have taken a lot more to convince me anyway. So, DVC may not be right for that family. I have to add that when people ask about joining here, most of us point that out to them anyway. I don't see anyone here as being a fanatic about it. We are just, for the most part, happy with our decision! :cheer2:

It's possible those people have been lurking on this board, reading all the positives, and just wanted to hear the opinions of people who haven't necessarily bought in.

I don't really have a problem with those threads - posts on this forum are usually biased the other way and I suspect most prospective members read this forum anyway. (And sad to say, sometimes an innocent questioner gets slammed here, too).

DVC is not a good thing for everyone.

Best wishes -

hey I am a single and joined back in 93 and still love it....

now for families of 6 or more - it is probably a must - at least until they open the family suities at All stars....

but it is great for a single too - especially if they like studios - which I do...

There are valid points on that budget board post. If someone doesn't care to stay onsite at a Disney deluxe, it might not make sense for them to join DVC.

Also, if someone wants to trade out often and go other places, a Marriott timeshare might make more sense for that person. Plus, they would have access to being a full-fledged Interval International member with access to II's Getaway weeks. This allows you to take extra vacations at a great discount without giving up your week.

you can also get the same benefits - much cheaper than the Marriott...
get a resale timeshares on a nice beach that is in demand....

So why don't the mods there move those threads over to the DVC board where they belong? Just a thought. :teeth:

lot of moderators won't move anything - even when asked - just go look at the welcome board - over half of those need to be moved...

the family board and budget board are generally the same way.

Good point, spiceycat. It doesn't have to be a Marriott. I'd just definitely do some investigating on any resort before I'd buy in - make sure there's no problems or special assessments looming.

But for me I'd probably rather it be Marriott because I want a brand I can trust. But then again, there's no guarantee a resort would stay a Marriott. At least with DVC, I pretty much know it's gonna stay Disney (at least the resorts sitting next to the parks should I would think?) ;)

It's pretty scary committing to a timeshare if you think about it. That probably holds a lot of people back.
