I have posted something along the lines of this in one thread, but i feel like this needs to be said in a thread of its own: REALLY?!

If you have already bought into DVC via resale and not directly from DVC, it is my understanding that you are being grandfathered in. If this is your situation, you have no reason to complain because your membership and your perks are staying exactly the same as they were when you closed the deal.

If you have not yet bought into DVC and were considering doing so via resale and not directly from DVC, i understand your frustration but DVC has the right to do this if they want to. You are not purchasing your points from DVC. You are purchasing them from resale. If DVC wants to give the individuals who purchase directly from them benefits to distinguish themselves from buying secondhand or through resale, why is everyone making them out to be the biggest, baddest Disney villain of them all?!

I used this analogy before and I think it makes sense. Say you are in the market to buy a car. You have the option of buying that car directly from the manufacturer's dealership (DVC). Or the other option is buying the car from a used car salesman or a secondary seller (resale DVC). Yes, in most cases the resale option is going to be cheaper than the dealership. In the end you will be getting the same exact car (DVC room). However, in many cases the dealership has bonus offers that come along with purchasing the car directly from them, such as free oil change slips, roadside assistance, etc. (this would be AP discounts, access to the top of the world lounge, etc.). Why should the dealership extend these bonus offers to a different seller down the road? It is what makes them unique and gives an extra nudge to those looking to purchase.

I have seen people say that it is discrimination the way that DVC is treating members differently. This would be the case if DVC was doing this to the same population of people that were ALL BUYING DIRECTLY FROM THEM. If you buy into DVC from a person different than DVC, THIS IS NOT DISCRIMINATION PEOPLE.

I'm sure that many many people on here disagree with me, but I can't be the only person who is getting tired of hearing people complain about how "it's just not fair." I believe that DVC should have given more notice so that individuals considering purchasing had a window of time to purchase before this new change took place. But in reality, if you already bought into DVC through a reseller, none of this affects you. If you were potentially thinking of buying for a reseller and are now disappointed that you do not have the same benefits as other people, then you have a choice to make. Buy cheaper through resale and don't get those perks or pay more and get the benefits. In my opinion, if I was paying more for my DVC because I bought it from DVC and not a reseller, I would hope that I was getting some other perk for paying more than someone else that was essentially getting the same thing I was.

One other closing point: People are complaining because they will not have these perks with their resale DVC membership. If you are at a point in your life where you can even afford any sort of DVC membership, whether it be resale or directly from DVC, you should just be thankful you're even in that position. This is the definition of a first world problem. Do you have any idea how many families can NEVER afford a single trip to Disney World EVER? And everyone is complaining because they don't get food or merchandise discounts, or access to a special lounge. When you have a DVC membership, it should be for the memories you create with your family on vacation. Not for the perks you think you can get out of it. Let's be honest, years from now you're going to remember that trip you took with your loved ones, not the money you saved on souvenirs at World of Disney.

Sigh. So it isn't worth creating a fuss unless it impacts you directly today? (Note the emphasis on 'today' as this recent change may impact your resale value in the future.)

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I appreciate the sentiment of your quote, but I did not sign a contract to not be a socialist, trade unionist, or a jew. Yes, there is a chance in the future that DVC can change your benefits if you purchased resale or even if you purchased directly from them. But guess what? Theres a clause in your contract that YOU AGREED TO that says they have the right to change benefits at any time if they want.

also, my family does not resell any of our points. we use them all, every calendar year. or we roll some over to the next year. but either way, we do not sell our points because we bought them to use. so right now and in the future, nothing with resale affects us.

Ah bwvBound, you give me pause. Sorry if my opinion made you feel that way. I see your opinion as valid and genuinely yours, but as a very, very longtime member it is a bit distressing to see folks feel so maligned for something that was never, ever a "right". I think it is in misunderstanding that we see such uproars. Believe me, if I thought someone's rights were being taken, I would be just as vocal. Why original contract from 1993 clearly states that any perks/benefits/discounts are NOT guaranteed and can be taken away at any time. I have seen those perks be taken away, replaced, etc. Some I didn't like. But I did not buy perks, I bought a timeshare. So did every other member. And I do agree with MSS91 that if we are going to talk about unfairness, is it really fair that those of us that paid a good deal more are not given any more consideration than someone that paid a fraction of that cost?

I own other TS's. And I own both retail and resale with them. I have restrictions placed on my resale week by that TS because I bought that week resale as opposed to from MVC directly. I knew that going in, and because I bought it so much cheaper, I scarcely feel "slighted". I know I got a good deal on a TS.

I think I have a right to complain. I am a first time buyer and I signed my contracts 12 days ago not knowing about these changes.

you have a right to complain. i never said that. i just said that people should stop complaining (for the most part). for people in your situation where you just closed on a deal, it is obviously frustrating to have those perks taken away in less than 2 weeks. but the overall message still stands: DVC has the right to do what they want to do in regards to member perks. If you signed your contract 12 days ago, shouldn't you still get the perks?

I believe most that are complaining are those in the middle of a transaction, and I am empathetic to their situation. I don't think most are complaining for those that decide to purchase a month from now.

Just like you're tired of hearing others "complain", I'm tired of those who are not affected commenting on why we shouldn't complain. For me, it's really not a matter of the perks. We were told one thing yesterday and then something different today. I mailed my documents off yesterday. That pisses me off. Maybe not enough to cancel but enough that I wan't to discuss it with other potential buyers on this thread to see how they feel as well. I thought that was the reason for a forum. Especially one in the Purchasing DVC area. I agree with you that this is a first world problem but that still doesn't change the fact purchasing DVC that its a pretty penny and not something to be taken lightly. Reading the good and bad on this board has helped make me an informed consumer.

i am empathetic to their situation too. i know that it must be frustrating to be told you would have certain benefits, and then find out that you lost them. i also think people like complaining sometimes for the sake of complaining.

overall, people need to realize that benefits can change any time with any contract. its even worse to assume that things can't change for a resale contract. you can't have your cake and eat it too. you can't expect to get a cheaper DVC contract second hand and get all the benefits that people pay Disney full price for. At this point in time it is frustrating and not fair to people in the middle of a transaction but it is foolish to think you are entitled to the same benefits as people who pay more than you for the same type of contract.

i'm sorry that you fell into that gray zone of people that mailed documents, only to have the terms change while the papers were in transit. in my opinion, for people in your situation you should absolutely still have the perks available because that was the impression you were under when you dropped those papers in the mail.

i just felt like there was an overwhelming majority of people on here saying that it is blasphemy and discrimination how DVC changed these terms. the only problem with what DVC did is that they did not give people enough notice of the change of terms.

i still say people who assumed that Disney wouldn't eventually try to distinguish themselves from resellers are foolish. This is Disney people. I love the mouse as much as everyone else on this board but Disney is a business empire. They got where they are now by being business savvy. My family have been members of DVC since 1995. Perks were obviously WAY better back in the 90s, but we realized that as DVC and Disney got bigger, the benefits were going to become smaller. Why? They already have people hooked. They have clearly built up their demand for DVC enough where they can start to be selective on which groups get the benefits.

I live in a First World country. Pretty much all my problems are first world issues. That's what it is......

Whether you purchase direct or resale, the WDW you knew is changing for the worse quickly. That's what people are really complaining about. Within the past 30 days we have seen the following:

Increased ticket prices
Reduced Pool hours
Entertainment cut back at the parks
Longer waits times due to reduced staff
Delays on River of Lights
Delays on Star Wars land
Bus schedules wait time increased
Increased dining costs
Now resale ownership changes

If you are tired of hearing complaints, please step aside and let those vent. I think those who want to complain have very valid points and deserve to voice their opinions.

Once again, I never said people that are upset do not have a right to complain or don't deserve to complain. None of this has to do with the other associated changes that have occurred in the past 30 days. What this all boils down to is this:
1. I am sorry for everyone who have situations similar to a previous poster, who signed their paperwork and mailed it in, only to find out that perks have changed. This scenario is not fair because you were led to believe one thing, signed your part, and could not get it back from the mail. You are the population who is allowed to complain.
2. If you were considering buying DVC resale, you really should reconsider complaining because the terms are allowed to change at any point in time. You are paying less but still expecting the same grand package. Life doesn't always work this way. If the perks are that important to you, then buy directly from DVC.

et that was the case from 1993 until 2011. So who is foolish?

You know gatorskin76, I really think DVC is the foolish one here because they did NOT have parameters for resale members for all those years. So it is causing shock waves now as it did in 2011. If they had set the boundaries appropriately from early on this would all be moot. The up side to this argument is how many thousands and thousands of resale members that joined (via resale) for all those many hears have gleaned all the benefits that those of us that paid full price have had. Perhaps THOSE are the folks to be mad at? :)
