What exactly was the people mover? I've seen a lot people talk about it and I'm wondering what I missed.

LOL, but you didn't miss much! Some people loved the PM (I'm sure they will chime in). But I always thought it was lame. The best part was just having it there and seeing it, as opposed to actually riding it IMO. The PM contributed to the atmosphere of Tomorrowland by having a sense of motion overhead. As did the Rocket Jets when they were up higher. Now Tomorrowland seems much more dead because there is no motion. The Astro Orbiters need to be moved back to where they used to be (there is talk of this at Disney) and the PM or something equivalent needs to be built (talk of this at Disney as well).

Here is some more info on PM www.yesterland.com/peoplemover.html

I loved the people mover. It still exists at MK. Its now called the Tomorrowland Transportation Authority. It was like mini trains that carted you around tomorrowland for like 10 minutes. It was shaded, relaxing and fun. It had some weird elements in the 80's when it went though the world of tron.

Yesterland will probably have the best info.

Ok, we are SO going to be dating ourselves by KNOWING what this is...hehehe...even though it really hasn't been THAT long since they took it out!

To me the People Mover was a good "make out" ride...hehehe. Just a slow moving transporter that went in and out of rides around tomorrowland, like a tour...just a ride to rest your feet and look around.

Thanks for letting us know it is still at the MK. I was wondering if it was but have not been there for 7 years now! We are taking the kids next year and I would love to take them on it. :woohoo:

It was always the ride my family went on if the park was very crowded for a break. :thumbsup2

The people mover was a slow transport ride similar to the Tomorrow Land Transit Authority which still runs at MK in WDW. It was powered differently though. At one point, it went through a high speed tunnel of sorts. It didn't go fast, but they had movies on either side of things going fast past you. It was an OK ride. It was definitely one to do in the afternoon as its line never got long. But it did contribute to an atmosphere of sorts. But somewhere, along the way due to its design and color scheme along with several advances, it ceased looking anything sort of Tomorrow. It was replaced with the rocket rods, which themselves are now gone.

Thanks for the info. everyone. I know which ride you're talking about now. I've seen it at WDW but didn't know it was the same ride. Thanks for the link HydroGuy. I think I have to agree with you when you said I didn't miss much. It doesn't look real exciting but I can imagine it does add to the overall atmosphere.
