I have to go on a rant. I'm visiting my in-laws for the holidays. The subject of some adult relatives that went to Las Angles for the holidays came up and they could not understand why anyone would go to all the way to LA. I informed them Disneyland is in LA. That's when I was rudely told that they didn't have any children and wouldn't have a reason to go to Disneyland. I told them about the DIS and all the adults who go both to WDW and Disneyland often without children. They called us "sad people". I don't believe we are the sad people in this equation. The sad people are the ones who make everyone fit into the same mold.

It's good that there are people who would never consider going to
Disney, it keeps the lines shorter.

I consider them the "sad" ppl because some where through life they lost their "interchild" They just don't know how Disney brings out the child in us. :dance3: Which we need every once in awhile.:thumbsup2

I know! We should all grow up right! Can't wait for my upcoming trip when I will be Sad and Alone in WDW :lmao:

Wow, you are right - they just don't get it! We had a great time in early December going with my DD, DSIL, and DGD4 to WDW. However, my DH and and I decided there needed to be an "Senior Weekend" or some such, where only the Young at Heart could attend!

I am now wangling for a trip with my DH only, I know we would have a blast.

my favorite comment I give to people about my annual trip to MouseWorld....

"Disney is a WONDERFUL Place. It's a shame people waste it on children."

DD went to college in LA. So along with our annual Mouseworld trip, we added at least 2 Disneyland visits yearly while she was there.

We do one of the backstage tours (or Segway) on every trip and eat our way around the world.

I suppose flipping them the bird and telling them to kiss your ____ wouldn't do much for family harmony, even if it made you feel better. Eh who cares.... I loved Disney before I worked there on my CP. I loved it even more afterwards and bought a DVC membership 4 years before I had a kid. I'm going by myself (well will see a friend while there but I am staying in my DVC because at 32 I feel I'm too old to sleep on the floor or on an air mattress, especially if I have lodging already paid for) jan 13-18 when my wife and daughter are seeing here sister in Atlanta. Its always fun! Of course there are a few things I avoid there not wanting to see creepy... for example, single male in a heavily kid oriented place such as CRT might give off the wrong vibe. But theme parks, golf, boating, etc... bring it.

Mmm... Too bad things like the F and W booths aren't up and running ALL YEAR ROUND!

Yeah... sometimes I feel that way in regular life, but when I am in the Parks I feel it come on strong again... I can be in the worst mood possible and rides like Pirates or Tower of Terror cause me to do an instant 180. Plus channelling my inner child makes me ignore JUST how badly I am being taken advantage of in the COST category by Disney, making stomaching those over priced merchandise, food and tickets a little easier (until I get home ;-) )

I feel that we are not the ones who are truly sad.:sad2: Imagine being uncomfortable feeling the joy you feel when the castle comes into view. My heart swells which such emotion when I step into Mainstreet. I feel I have arrived home. :cloud9:

After spending a week with my in-laws, I have been completely unsuccessful in ascertaining what they do for fun. This should come as no surprise to me because I’ve been in the family for 20 years now and I have never been successful before. It’s amazing to me that I have been in the family for that long and they did not know about my Disney addiction until now. I can’t decide that if I’m hurt because they still don’t know me or if I’m mad because they completely wrote off what I do for stress release as something not worth doing after you turn 12 and not only offending me but also everyone else who shares the same interest as I do. I understand it’s not what they enjoy doing but don’t put it down because it’s what other people like to do. The problem is I can’t seem to find what it is that they like to do.

Maybe next Christmas when my DW goes to visit them -I'll spend the week at the POFQ.

My hubby doesn't share my Disney addiction, but he will go along. I have the advantage of being a travel writer and getting to travel around the country. I choose to go to Disney and Disney-related spots a lot because that's my area of expertise in my writing. I've long since quit telling people when I'm going. They don't understand. My mom thought it wasn't "nice" for me to go solo this year without Kenny, but he can't always go along and Disney is not as big for him as it is for me. I promised to take him to the Poly next fall. Plus, he wants to do a day trip somewhere aviation related.

Being a travel writer you can always claims its work! Just write an article or write a guide book. I want to take a course at the Disney Institute and call it continuing education. Take a 3 and 1/2 day course but stay 2 weeks. I d.on't think I can get the funds allocated for that

I so understand! My DH and I went last year 3 times to WDW. We don't have any kids at all. There are so many other things to do as adults - besides being allowed to ride all the rides and feel like a kid. We took in the Flower & Garden Fest, Star Wars Wknds, and even a Christmas trip. We get asked all the time how we could go if we don't have any kids. Personally, we feel there's more to do now that we're adults.

Overall, it's their loss - both for never experiencing the magic and not really getting to know you. Keep smiling and remember, Mickey will always welcome you home!

love it!!!!!

i saw a quote in a post a while ago that summed it up nicely (not exact, but something like this):
"i love going to wdw, where my biggest worry in the world is if i'll puke after going on space mountain 5 times....."

all the other daily stresses and worries just melt away once i hit mco, and nothing matters but what joy the next minute might bring. i think it is more pathetic that some ppl have never found their "happy place", poor things :sad1:

I'm so glad to find others that feel like I do.

Yesterday, I was talking with my coworkers about considering a solo trip in Oct for Halloween. Purely, a personal vacation, no work, or any other excuse. They thought I was completly insane and gave me pitying looks like they felt sorry for me. I was actually really excited over the idea and now they've made me doubt myself and feel like a freak.

I told one of them that I get a tear in my eye when I see Tinkerbell fly from the castle and she shook her head and said she wished there was something to make her that happy, so who's the pathetic one?:sad2:

Plus, I'll have to do solo because DH is in nursing school and can't take the time, plus he only likes Disney, not LOVES Disney. DS will be 12 and he is really Disneyed out. He has said he'd rather I go alone than drag him again. So, who am I hurting?

I LOVE this...need to remember it to use it! When I told my family that I'd booked the podcast cruise last week, my brother started mock-praying out loud "Lord, please let me sister get a life." I have a life, one that I enjoy very much, and my trips to WDW are the icing on the cake!
