as Ive said Im in charge of our trunk or treat tomorrow at church, I also happen to have come down with a pretty nasty case of the flu.

Well word spread that I was sick and you would not believe how many people have just stepped up to the plate to help! I am so grateful for it. People are calling the church and saying "what can I do?" The few calls that I have made, people have prayed with me on the phone and asked for the numbers that are next so they can call for me. :goodvibes It took me 30 minutes to make 3 calls. I have a really hard time admitting that I need help but today I have had to do just that. I know that these things have to get done today and I want to be able to do them all but I just cant.

anyway, I'm not looking for sympathy,I just wanted to remind everyone that there are really good people in the world and sometimes we just need to ask for help.

Good for them! It's nice when people come together like that and help in a pinch. I hope you feel better soon!

Binny, it's nice to hear about the goodness of people--especially lately. Hope you're feeling better soon and you get all the help you need!

I was also going to ask what trunk or treat was but I just finished reading a thread about how people are really mean on these boards and I didn't want anyone to think I was being snide....I really am curious if this is something different for Halloween that you do locally. I even checked my computer keyboard to see if the letters were close to each other....in case it was just a typo.
When I moved to the town I live in now I learned that they "do" Halloween very differently than I did it as a kid so I am aware there are geographical differences.

hope you feel better!

Thanks for taking the time to post something nice :goodvibes

Trunk or treat is where a group (here, it's usually a church, but it doesn't have to be) has a Halloween party/Fall Festival and at some point, the party-goers can trick or treat at everyone's cars. The cars are lined up and parked before the event starts. Some people elaborately decorate their trunks and some just stand beside their trunks with bags of candy inside. So, the kids can get a big haul of candy just walking down the aisle of parked cars. Our church gives prizes for the best decorated trunks. Some people get bales of hay, pumpkins, lights, the whole works. It's a lot of fun, and it's promoted as a "safe alternative" to trick-or-treating, meant to replace going door-to-door in an entire subdivision with people you don't know.

Our kids love trunk of treat, as you can get so much candy really fast. We still go trick or treating in the traditional way, but we only go to a few houses - their grandparents', close friends, etc, so they don't get a lot of candy that way. We pretty much just go to the houses of people who want to see the kids in their costumes. :)

Lauries got it :) Thanks!

We usually have about 25-30 trunks backed up together to form a U Shape in our parking lot and kids go through and get loaded up with candy there. Our people go all out! Last years winner was a guy who turned the back of his mini van into a "front porch" he had shingles hanging over the open hatch, hay bales a stuffed dog and he sat on a rocking chair. He was dressed in overalls and had all this stuff around him. It was great!
We also had a couple who turned the back of their pick up into a football field and made mini BSU players lined up to win they had a scoreboard and everything. It was really tough to choose!

We also open our gym and have carnival type games in there. For instance this year we have 2 bouncies in the gym, face painting, a fish pond game, and pin the X on the treasure chest. my friend made a 6ft by 4ft treasure map on artists canvas and we will hang it on the wall for this one. In the foyer we have a prize wheel that looks like a ships wheel (amazing! One of our guys made it himself) and a pumpkin ring toss game.

Our theme this year is Survivor Island so we have a lot Luau type decorations and stuff.

For the bigger kids we have a huge 40 ft by 40 ft bouncie that is an obstacle course. Its great fun!

This is my second year year leading it and the churches 6th year ( I think) holding it.

I went there today and started painting the wheel, I couldnt believe the outpouring of love and concern there. Theyre just amazing people. I am lucky to have them in my life! :)

What a wonderful, positive post. Hope you feel better soon :)
