Hottest days of the summer so far in SoCal. How you guys hanging at the parks? Any tips? We are visiting (from SoCal lol) this weekend.

Ugh, hot and humid. 90° with 42% humidity. The air feels thick & heavy. And did I mention hot? :scared: lol

We had already planned on a break, so that's what we're doing now in a lovely air-conditioned room at Hojo. Ahhhhh

Will go back around 6pm and stay till midnight. :teeth:

Days like this make me glad I grew up in Vegas and went to college in Tempe lol.

Start early. It can be humid then with the cloud cover but at least the sun isn’t directly on you. Try and plan fastpasses for water rides in the afternoon. Drink a lot of water. My dad always said if you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Be careful with soda, juice and alcohol. Do indoor activities during the heat of the day

Oh another thing, pay attention to lines that are in the sun. Last year I made the mistake of getting in the haunted mansion stand by line at 2 pm when it was 96 degrees out. The line was only 20 minutes but being in direct sunlight was rough!!

Same thing with the Adorable Icecream stand on the Pier. There’s no shade! I waited 45 minutes in the sun in line (so not smart lol). My mom was the smart one and waited in Knick’s Knacks lol

This morning was lovely. There was intermittent sprinkling till about 10:30 am and crowds were super low. It started getting pretty hot around 12:30p. It's 92° degrees now. But the kids (my younger daughter and her friend from northern CA which is why we got a hotel room) are still sleeping. Perfect. :flower:

We've found that it helps to force outselves to take breaks and drink water.
One of our Disney family rules has always been: when we see a water fountain, we stop to drink water (plus, we take liberal advantage of the ice waters we get when ordering counter service). We usually visit in August and have experienced heat like that in the parks before. I also have a parasol on me (for lines in the sun).

We carry Camelbak bottles and before we leave for the park we fill it with ice water and as we need it, we take advantage of the free ice water in the parks and do refills. The water stays cold in the Camelbak and keeps us hydrated.

We were there last weekend and I toyed with the idea of taking my kids today by myself just for the day and decided not to.... it’s pretty hot and so many of the lines are in direct sunlight. That’s one of the nicest things about WDW... most lines are in the AC! I was concerned for my 3 year old. She’s already acclimated to the San Diego temps and has completely forgotten she’s a native Texan. 😂

Am I reading that 42% humidity correctly and people think that is humid? If correct, that makes me giggle since we never get humidity that low where I live and it is usually above 80% in the summer. Planning a trip to DL for next summer and hope to enjoy the relative comfort :)

For me that humidity isn't bad.
What makes the heat bad is here is our UV Index.

What people from other places don't get by just looking at the humidity percentage or the temperature degrees is that sunshine here is physically hotter than other places.

The high UV index means rather than sun feeling nice on your skin, it literally causes you pain.

Combine piercing sunlight that hurts with extremely high temps (because we are in a desert climate heat here feels EXTREMELY differently and dry heat is freaking miserable) and add in that little bit of humidity to make the air feel thick, it's like nothing you've experienced unless you live in the Southwest.

I live 12 miles south of Disneyland. The UV index is currently 11. There is not a cloud in the sky. The temperature is 88 with a humidity of 40%, but I can tell you, I just got home from a walk around my neighborhood. 3 miles in an hour, so a pretty leisurely pace. I am DRIPPING sweat. It is HOT. We don't go to the parks on these kinds of days. Luckily, this summer up to now has been unusually cool.

Even last night, I went out at 10pm to take out some trash and the heat hit me as soon as I opened my sliding door. It did NOT cool down. It was only 71 degrees, but something like 85% humidity at that time. Felt stifling. Over here, anything above 45% humidity feels very uncomfortable. It is different than the tropical "wet" humidity you get in Florida.

It's also a matter of what you're used to. I lived back east for 15 years with yucky high humidity during the summers. When we moved back to SoCal, people would complain about the humidity and we'd be like "huh? what humidity?" since we were used to much higher numbers. After a year or so back, we were complaining along with them. :rotfl2:

I'm from NJ and moved to Huntington Beach last Sept. So less than 15 miles from Disney. I kind of laugh when people say it's humid out. And I'm like "huh???" ;) ;) I can't stand the Florida humidity. It's like walking in soup.

For those in the park I recommend the parsols you can can get one in New Orleans sq. I go one 20 years ago and I still bring it every trip. It's small enough that I can use it in line and it's not in the way when I'm in the zig zag lines like Haunted Mansion & Peter Pan. I've very sensitive to heat and the sun so having shade while I wait in lines is a life saver.

On an average summer day, it's over 90°.
Humidity in the 90s
UV index around 7
going to rain at random times of the day and shut down rides

I was thinking the same thing! LOL
