People at Disney Now, How's The Heat?

For me that humidity isn't bad.
What makes the heat bad is here is our UV Index.

What people from other places don't get by just looking at the humidity percentage or the temperature degrees is that sunshine here is physically hotter than other places.

The high UV index means rather than sun feeling nice on your skin, it literally causes you pain.

Combine piercing sunlight that hurts with extremely high temps (because we are in a desert climate heat here feels EXTREMELY differently and dry heat is freaking miserable) and add in that little bit of humidity to make the air feel thick, it's like nothing you've experienced unless you live in the Southwest.

So is the UV index why it’s only 85 but it feels like my skin is sizzling And I could ignite????? Ha!

We just got home Thursday, 5 days at DLR over the span of 9 days, the last 2 days temps in the mid 90's. We're used the heat, as we live in the Desert. But the humidity was pretty high compared to where we live, in the 40% range. I think it was hitting a lot of people pretty hard. The CMs at bag check security were all encouraging people to drink lots of water.

It's not just the heat, but add the concrete that heats up and reflects back on you. The crowds and the buildings. Some rides, like Radiator Springs have put in misters that help a lot, but most others don't have that. We saw several times people having issues with the heat.

Hydrate, Hydra, Hydrate. Avoid caffeine drinks and drink water.

The water bottle filling stations in Galaxy's Edge were nice, but they need to get these installed in the rest of Disneyland asap.

Well it's decided, I will be wearing a sun hat lol My husband also bought some UV sleeves. My husband is fully sleeved and his skin is sensitive to the hot sun, he also gets skin cancer quite a bit. We were in Florida last summer and he was pretty fine. But it rained quite a bit and was fairly cloudy so maybe that helped.

We have UV blocking umbrellas. They are amazing. Look into those. Pretty cheap on Amazon. Plenty of people at DL use umbrellas in the summer. But regular umbrellas don't do anything. The UV ones seriously bring the temperature down 10-15 degrees, easy.

Many people do just please be aware you have one and watch out for people around you. Standing in lines is the worst when the person with an umbrella seems either intentionally or unintentionally oblivious to others.

I'm doubtful they will drop the temps that much. When it's hot, it's just hot, might keep the sun off of you and keep you a bit cooler though. Plus the sun reflects back from the concrete too, and absorbes the heat. I think they help to keep the UV rays off you though and that's a plus.

They make it "feel" 10-15 degrees cooler, sorry.

Also, I have never even come close to hitting another guest at a Disney park with my umbrella. I don't use it in lines. And I never get too close to people because I like my personal space. If people walking towards me get too close, I simply raise my arm holding the umbrella so they can pass without being hit. My kids do the same. No eyeballs poked out yet...

Really really hot yesterday when we were there. We were only there for one day so didn’t go back for rest and pool as we normally do, but instead built in a sit down lunch and dinner and breaks in the shade (of which there is very little in SWL—that’s where I reaalllly got too hot and had to stop and hydrate and regroup). Once the sun drops lower it begins to feel cooler, but still it was never cool enough for sweatshirts the entire night, til closing. You just have to make sure you pay attention to getting lots of liquids and to how you are feeling and it’s totally doable.

We saw one lady (fiftyish) collapse today in the Small World lineup, apparently from the heat. It took around 8 or 10 minutes for a two person medical team to arrive. This must be a fairly common occurrence at Disneyland and California Adventure right now.

A couple of times today I didn't feel very well, and I noticed I wasn't sweating as much as usual, so I was probably severely dehydrated. On each occasion I found a fountain and drank 20 "gulps" of water, and felt much better within minutes.

Yikes! I’m going to bring my large water bottle with me tomorrow.

One of the reasons I like the parasol I got from Disneyland is that is very small. It’s about the size of a child’s umbrella. If it’s super crowded in the walkways I’ll but it down until it’s less crowded or I’m in line and have room to put it up.
I do agree if you use an umbrella you have to be extra vigilant about where it is and where other people are.

Where did you get it in Disneyland? Or do you mean you got it *for* Disneyland? Thanks!

In Disneyland at New Orleans Square- there is a cart. I don’t think it’s manned all the time- maybe like 11am to 6pm. For an extra fee they will paint on it. Be careful as the cost is per painting. I bought another one a couple of years ago and it was $$$ cause of all the paintings I added. Otherwise I think they are $20

Hottest days of the summer so far in SoCal. How you guys hanging at the parks? Any tips? We are visiting (from SoCal lol) this weekend.
We did well today with lots of hydrating and by unintentionally getting drenched by a tidal wave on Splash Mountain midday- helped keep us cool for about 2 hours. The low humidity made it pretty bearable

I decided Friday night to take my girls to disneyland by myself since the husband hd to work unexpectedly all weekend. We left our house at 5:59am and were standing front and center at the rope by 7:36am. It was already hot. We got a ton of stuff done between 8-10am. By 11am it was HOT and crowded. We did several shows, characters, ate a long lunch in the shade, and took it easy. I kept forcing water on them and I drank a ton too. I’m from Texas but it was hot and I was worried about my 3 year old. No one got sunburned though. I was sweating like crazy. How do some of y’all manage to pull off that cute at Disney look in 96 degree temperatures? 🤪 I looked like I’d ran a marathon when we left the park at 8pm after 13 hours.
