People are walking reservations and multiple days are gone...how?

I've been trying to secure an AKV value studio, 1BR, or 2BR exactly at 8am at 11mo out for the last 4 days. I'll take whatever I can get. So far, no luck. I've been able to pick up a couple of days that people have dropped. Obviously, these reservations are being walked. That wasn't possible for me as I have a June UY and I am looking to check in early June next year (can't cross UY when booking online). Today, I'm noticing that multiple days are disappearing from inventory. Example: Today is July 4th so booking for June 4th, 2022 but now nothing is showing available until June 7th or 8th. How is that possible? Can someone please explain?

Not as many people dropping days and walking. They have secured those days and are not yet checking out.

As long as there is no gap, it can happen. It’s unique and like the perfect storm, but with AKV value it’s a room that this happens.

June 4th + 7 nights can go all the way to a June 11 checkout (June 10 being the last night. It's entirely possible for the 7th and 8th to be booked up.

I was able to get a value 2 bedroom on July 2nd and my use year is June. I may have been lucky in the this was during the time when the online system was down for doing modifications and I may have snagged a room someone needed to walk on their last day but couldn't and had to wait until 9am to call in and walk but I was able to book it online at 8am.

Great! It’s one of those rooms that is popular and why you may see those extra days in a row gone when it doesn’t happen with others that have so many!

That’s not how walking works. If someone is walking, it doesn’t matter if they modify at 8 am or 8 pm, they have the room locked up.

I beg to differ, if they have the room booked from 6/25 to 7/2 and wanted to continue the walk they would have to do it before 8am on 7/2. If they tried the night before on 7/1 after the office was closed they would have had to wait until 9am on 7/2 which would have been too late since you could still do online booking at 8am ( the glitch was not allowing modifications but was allowing new reservations)and snag the room before they could continue the walk.

They don't have to wait for the office to open, whatever that means. You can modify a reservation online at any time. If someone has 6/25-7/2 booked, they can "walk" any time from 6/26 until 7/1 and get an extra day.

They would have already walked it forward before then. They don’t wait until the day that room is available for others to book to modify/walk their reservation.

The whole point of walking is that it works because you have the reservation locked up at 11 months + up to 7 days, so that nobody else can book that room. You don’t have to get online at 8 am to modify it forward. Right now I could have something booked through June 12, 2022 and would be able to walk it forward any time in the next 6 days and still not lose my hold on that room.

No you couldn't, there was glitch in the system that lasted over a week or so that did not allow you to modify a reservation. There is a thread on the glitch in disboards.

Maybe you need to go back and reread some of the stuff that was posted.

If someone was walking, They could have called in and modified by phone any time from 6/26 to 7/1 in that example. No reason at all to wait until 7/2. Calling in on 7/2 to modify would not be “walking.”

Go back and read what is in post number 7.

The glitch would not let you drop days, It did not prevent walking as I have been doing it for over 10 days on two different rooms.

But, the premise is that someone walking is not prevented from using the website in normal circumstances. If someone doesn’t get the room moved in time, then they lose the walk,

Even with the glitch, someone would have called before the day opened to ensure the walk kept going. Most do not wait until the last day to move it forward v

My example was that someone may have not tried to continue there walk until the day before they needed to and discovered they could not and the offices were closed until 9am the next day. If that was the case then at 8am the next morning someone could have booked the room. I am thinking that is how I was able to book a value 2 bedroom on July 2nd for June 2022.

I think you just were one of the lucky ones which is great, I get what you were saying but wanted to clarify that if someone didn’t move it in time, regardless of why, it is no longer a walk and they are back to square one like the rest of us.

Just didn’t want new people reading and thinking that walking requires calling in!

That is possible, but requires assumptions that we can’t know. I think it’s more likely that someone actually had booked their vacation to check out of value room(s) on 6/2/22. Walking happens, but it also gets blamed for all sorts of availability issues, even when there are simpler explanations. Walking even gets blamed for things that can’t be because of walking. Seems people are quick to attribute any difficulty in getting a room to walking - but people wouldn’t be walking if demand for those rooms didn’t exceed supply.

I currently have May 31 to June 10 in AKV-Jambo 1-Bedroom Value.

I may actually add a couple more days, but luckily I was able to secure May 31 to June 7 and keep adding days. Will probably end up adding through the 13th

Obviously, these reservations are being walked. That wasn't possible for me as I have a June UY and I am looking to check in early June next year (can't cross UY when booking online)

Case and point why I don't buy in to the have a UY right before you normally stay. Long term I want the option to walk a reservation for a number of months.

Today is July 4th so booking for June 4th, 2022 but now nothing is showing available until June 7th or 8th.

Since certain rooms can go out of circulation it's best to walk the furthest out you can especially in such a small category as value.

Walking is an issue though even if it's 1 room.

It fairly easy to see as days keep coming available at 10 months and 25/26/27/28/29 days. It's also 1-2 nights fairly continuously.

It will only get worse in the long run.

For AKV Value if 1 person is walking that is 5-10% of the rooms out of circulation that should have been there for the 11 month draw.
