People are walking reservations and multiple days are gone...how?

Case and point why I don't buy in to the have a UY right before you normally stay. Long term I want the option to walk a reservation for a number of months.
How many rooms actually book up in the first few seconds at 11 months? I supposed if you always intend to book those rooms, then maybe this is a factor in your use year decision, but for the vast majority of owners, the extra month or two is much more valuable.

Point is overtime things will get harder. Right now (sorry if people are upset) you are dealing with a larger percentage of owners who are not the most computer/website literate.

You will have more and more people who grew up with computers/websites looking for ways to get their rooms. DVC is getting more content via YouTube and forums and more people have a higher likelihood of walking in the future.

The issue is not that rooms are gone the issue is that people will walk a room 1 week / 1 month / ect and inventory will disappear on you at 11 months and you have to guess when inventory will pop back up after they walk on.

I don't really see the value of the extra time when you can bank points or rent them out. As I think Rose and others have brought up after seeing 2020 you are best to be borrowing not banking points. So if you normally only travel for the fall having your UY in April or Sept does little imo. As with everything though people need to make their own decisions I am here to not say the normal answer though on most things.

I've been trying to secure an AKV value studio, 1BR, or 2BR exactly at 8am at 11mo out for the last 4 days. I'll take whatever I can get. So far, no luck. I've been able to pick up a couple of days that people have dropped. Obviously, these reservations are being walked. That wasn't possible for me as I have a June UY and I am looking to check in early June next year (can't cross UY when booking online). Today, I'm noticing that multiple days are disappearing from inventory. Example: Today is July 4th so booking for June 4th, 2022 but now nothing is showing available until June 7th or 8th. How is that possible? Can someone please explain?
I would imagine that you could possibly start walking a reservation earlier if you intend to bank points into the next year. Example your use UY is June 2021 and have 90 points left, why cant you start a walk in May 2022 using June 2021 points and when you get to the cross over use June 2021 points for May 31, 2022 and use June 2022 points for June 1st 2022? Then drop the May 31, 2022 date and then bank those points since you are still in the banking time frame. At your next modification just make sure you change it to use your banked points first.

I have to agree with this. I don't think I would ever consider a UY based on the ability to walk, unless it had no impact on my travel plans.

I second this. I chose a June UY because the majority of my trips were in November and the earliest I would go would be June after my kids are out of school. I don't forsee me going anytime from after Thanksgiving to the end of May.

Me, too... I didn't buy my points with a plan that required me to go through hoops to use them.

This seems to come up often in relation to the AKV value rooms. I love a bargain and these surely are... I've been lucky to stay in them often over the years... will be in one next week and again next spring. But honestly I have enough points for a standard at AKV which I also consider a great bargain point wise. If I can score a value room, I feel lucky... otherwise I book a standard. And feel lucky that this is almost always easy to book LOL

My UY accommodates my travel patterns... not my ability to walk a reservation. Yikes!

Boardwalk Standard as well, likely RIV Tower Studios, possibly VGF Standard Studios (depending if new rooms are all more points). I think I heard about it with some Grand Villas at times as well. For the most part it's shorter walks though.
