Pelican Plunge refurb?

I doubt that would happen. Disney offers no compensation when you go to the parks and rides are down for rehab. I would think it's the same on DCL. Not all activities are guaranteed to be available on all cruises, even at the same stops.
Can't see it happening either but it sure would be nice for those affected!

Castaway Cay as a whole is never guaranteed. On our second cruise we were unable to dock - they tried for an hour or two. The crew did a great job making the best of the unexpected sea day. It was a real disappointment, but there was nothing that anyone could do. It's not common, but it does happen several times a year.

We missed CC on our January 30th cruise (Fantasy) ..that was the cruise that there was only one engine and we had to miss CC in order to get back to PC on time.
Some of the crew told us that there had been a couple of instances in January of not being able to dock because of weather. It does happen and it is disappointing.

I get how disappointing it would be to miss out on castaway cay because of unforeseen weather mechanical problem etc. HOWEVER, as im setting sail on my 1st cruise a week from today, and Disney PLANNED this refurbishment in advance, knows about it and has not notified me whatsoever (this is the 1st time I'm hearing about it). There's a difference between Disney knowing in advance and unforeseen circumstances. I'm UPSET!!!! I've been hyping up the pelican plunge to my DS5 in particular and he's going to feel like I lied to him. Shouldn't DCL have to notify you if your cruise if affected by something like this! DCL should compensate

Any info on what they're refurbing or is this just a normal maintenance window to repaint and repair stuff? Will be there 7/1 so wondering if they are plans for anything new.

We have friends who just cruised and they did receive notice ahead of time, I believe it was printed somewhere in the blue book that comes with the luggage tags. I'm sure your son will understand if you tell him they are doing maintenance. Just explain it to him before you go and tell him about some of the other things he will get to experience while there. There are a ton of other things to do on the island. We've been there 3 times now and my son was excited about it until he tried using it for a few minutes and we've never used it again. It's pretty much just a playground big toy in the water with too many kids playing on it. If you were hyping it up to him, chances are he would have been disappointed with it anyway. It's really not that spectacular IMO.

Thanks for the perspective. I hadn't thought of it that way but it makes sense. I guess I hadn't thought about the other cool things we could d9 to. It was just the iconic thing we've focused on doing but your probably right, it's just a crowded big toy in the water! Haha Can I ask what other activities your son was drawn to more?

He LOVES snorkeling the most, he even brings his own gear now so we don't have to rent anything. They have things hidden under water for you to find as you're out on the snorkel trail and he has seen some pretty cool looking fish. He spends most of his time swimming and looking for shells and sand dollars. My DD7 prefers to hang out on a floaty raft and build sandcastles in the shallow areas. We bring a shovel and bucket from home. Because of how shallow the water is, both can go out really far so there's actually a pretty large area for them to play and explore. We haven't tried the bike trails, water trikes or anything like that but those are an option too for a little extra. The sting rays are ok, but we probably wouldn't do them again now that we've done it once. They also have activities/contests & character meets on the island as well as kids club activities but we haven't participated in those. I'm sure you guys will have a blast and find lots of things to keep you busy!

Sounds so fun!! My DS loves to snorkel (can't wait to see the hidden things!) and also look for seashells to, they sound a lot alike! I didn't think there would be any seashells for some reason so I'm happy to tell him about that. Guess I have more research to do about the island (didn't know about water trikes!). very grateful for your positive feedback and advice :thanks:

Nothing is guaranteed- whether it is Pelican Plunge, Aquaduck, etc. You are still on a wonderful cruise and beautiful island. Lots of things to do (or enjoy the beach, lay around and do nothing at all!)

Honestly our kids only go on it once at our suggestion and do not want to go again. Our kids are great swimmers but get a bit freaked out by it for some reason. I do not know that a five year old will like it very much. Our youngest is 7 and is huge for his age and is visibly uncomfortable when he goes on it. (But he loves the ship waterslides and waterslides in general.)
