PeepsII-The Hot, Sweaty Asian Strikes Back. Feb 2010. 12/2-Part 2 has begun.

Dorms in Guiyang. Often people are six to a room in a room about as large as a large walk in closet. the mattress on the beds are made of straw. Many don't have showers. They have to go to city showers.

Remember the beauty of downtown? Here's some of the outlying areas:

Is this considered 'normal' life in this City? Or is this the poorer parts of the City?

I am not gonna quote the tray-o-dog, but I at first thought it was pig. Ick, ick. I can't even fathom seeing them raw! :scared:

Did it taste the same? I once had McDonald's in Spain and while it was good, it wasn't quite the same.

The WaterCube lit up:

This 5 star hotel was built especially for the Olympics:

More coming.....

BEAUTIFUL buildings! Wow! I never really watched the Olymics, so I've never seen these before. Do they just sit empty now?

I lived in NYC when NYC was in running for hosting the Olympics. One of the major concerns was building the necessary buildings and then having them go to waste. Land isn't completely abundant in NYC to build huge stadiums either...it was really interesting to read about how they were going to swing it.

This is actually in the normal part of town. The downtown area is newer and pretty expensive.

I saw the raw ones from the corner of my eye....:scared1:

Surprisingly, it was quite good. Pretty much the same to me.....

Plenty of space on the north side of Beijing where the Olympic Village is, but really I don't know if the Bird's Nest will ever get used on a regular basis. So sad because it's so beautiful...

how did i not know that this existed? i'm in a deposition right now (mooching off the courthouse's wifi) but i will play catch-up later.

Well...I'm glad you're here now!

Let Erica know too.

Hey, :wave2:

I thought I would join in the fun. Looks like its going to be a wild ride. :woohoo:

:woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay:

Thanks for taking the plunge.

Okay, made through your thread this morning. As you can tell I am being quite productive today, good thing I can work my own hours.

Wow, I really enjoyed seeing the pictures from China. Although, I must admit some of the food and sanitation made my stomach do a flip.

Cooked puppy dogs.:eek: Oh, someone call the ASPCA. I am such a puppy dog lover, I cant imagine. :dogdance: Next time my hound is bad I will just threaten her with this.

That is such a bummer that it's already falling apart. What a unique building.

I look forward to reading your next update with more of their building codes, etc. information in it-I'm into that stuff! :goodvibes

The food in Beijing was much better and prepared in more sanitary conditions....mostly

I was grossed out by the dogs, but in retrospect, it's just another culture...so I'm getting used to it. Dont get me wrong, I will NEVER eat it though.....pictures of my doggies would keep running through my head.:scared1:

Yeah...get ready for more :scared1: when I talk about the buildings....

I shared your PTR China pics with my hubby. HE knew what those buildings were from and for and before he saw it and I told him about your China trip- he asked if you went to some square where something horrible happened. I forget the name, but anyway, he is enjoying your PTR with me(maybe he'll join the Dis-I did get him pon FB) and THEN went on to wonder how I got through school since I didn't know any history. I told him that is why we homeschool- so I can learn it under more fun conditions and remember it this time! Like my grammar- it IS perfect isn't it??!!!:rotfl:
Jackie would admonish me!(but she's IN WDW right now-:cutie:), english teacher that she is!

I know several people who have been on missions to the Phillipines and Thailand and had to eat dog on a regular basis.........:scared::scared::scared:

OMG I went back and looked again at that Picture !! I thought it was a bunch of chicken now I see what it is !!!YUK!!!!!!!:scared1:
I think I would be sacred to eat anything in China !! I too only eat at the chain Chinese buffets !!Even then I am not toooo sure !!

I tend to stick to shrimp!!!:lmao:

All I can say to this update is WOW.* Serious culture shock.* Thanks. Are those polar bears on your boxers?:rotfl::rotfl:

So glad to see pictures from your China trip!! :cool1:

Your picture of the fries and onion rings portions at Pizza Hut made me laugh. Only in the U.S. do we serve such monstrous portions. I remember when we first got back to the states after living in Australia for 3 years and we went to a McDonald's we were shocked at the size of a small soda and fries. They were about the size of a large in Australia.

To answer your question on my TR, yes, I loved POR! You should so stay there on your upcoming trip!! The grounds are so beautiful and relaxing. The boat ride to DTD is wonderful. :goodvibes

Yeah!!! Finally posting!!!:yay::yay: I have spent I don't know how much time reading you trip report. My husband thinks I'm having an affair with a "Hot Sweaty Asian" HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

It was driving me NUTS that I couldn't post on some of it. Your group seems like a TON of FUN!! It was awesome to have INSTANT gratification with Wendy and the BABY!!! I was reading along one day and Wendy is preggo. Next thing I know 3 hours later BABY ASHLYN!!! Sweet! Usually have to wait 9 months:rotfl: She fits in with the other two kids perfectly. Soooooo cute!!

Keep the mini China trip report coming!!! LOVE it. I want more. Lots of details please.

The McDonalds in Tokyo was good, only not enough dipping sauces and Ketchup for my (obviously disgusting) taste buds. I'm a sauce girl. And yes I was eating Micky D's in Tokyo. Shame on me. I too, may have starved without it. I did however try lots of authentic Japanese food.

Anyway...now I don't have anything to read!!!! so :upsidedowCHOP CHOP.

PS Hi Wendy:wave2: The kids are darling!!!!

My tribute to Michael Phelps:

Now how would you know anything about that :confused3?

That's what I thought yesterday when having lunch on the last day of school with my 2nd grader...another kid in his class was sucking applesauce through a straw (:confused3 must be an 8 year old thing) and suddenly said "it looks like I'm doing pot" :scared1:

At bedtime I asked my son (who had obviously heard the comment) if he knew what the boy meant. He told me he thought the boy was talking about making pottery  (WHEW!!) I know they have had drug awareness in school but figured it was as good a time as any to have a teaching moment with him, our first serious such conversation. oh I am NOT looking forward to this growing up thing!!!

Whoa, did you read the whole PTR, TR pt 1, 2 and 3???? :worship::worship: It was quite a fun little ride.... now on to the next one...

I love the instant gratification thing! So I often Tivo shows and don't watch them for a while so that I can watch one episode after another and not have to wait a week in between.... ha ha ha. Wow, a three hour gestational period. What must that be like? Hee hee

I hear you!!! So scary that you might have to answer these things sooner than later! Once Erin and Dylan came out wearing those shoe covers that we had from when our carpets were cleaned on their hands and feet... and then they were doing some sort of dance and Erin was all, "Look Mom, come watch our booty dance!" And then I'm all (trying to remain calm), "What do you mean?" And she said, "See, we're wearing the booties..."

:faint:

HEEHEE  Unfortunately my 7 year old learned at school to "shake my bootie" and taught his 4 yo brother. I really have to try to not laugh much when they put their hands and feet on the floor with their booties in the air and start shaking away :rotfl2: It's still cute at this age!
