[The coal furnace was replaced with oil around 1945, the fruit storage was long since emptied because canning is a lost art.

I love to can!! Before I left, I canned EVERYTHING! Fruit, jams, even stews and soups and salsa! Saved me a ton of money! I can't wait to get back and fill up my pantry again!

There's some sort of documentary about the space shuttle on. The dude was talking about how dangerous meteroites were. He said if the shuttle encountered one, It could cause a catastrophic "explosive decompression". I was like, Dude!. Same thing happens to me every time I encounter a Golden Corral.

That's how I wound up on the do not serve list. My picture's by the greeter's podium with a Nuke Fallout symbol over it. How was I supposed to know there was gas main under the building? Darned poor planning if you ask me. They still refer to it as the great Bubba Blast of '04.

The only one I've been hurt with was not electric. I stuck a chisel in my thumb. (Makes me think of that old Saturday Night Live bit with Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest where they'd describe all these painful things they did to themselves and after each one say, "Oh, I hate when I do that".)

I remember darn near laughing myself into leakage when this came out!! So funny!

I could never sleep without some form of clothing on because with my luck the one time I didn't there'd be an earth quake, and there'd I'd be on the 6 o'clock news buck naked standing in the middle of the street....not a pretty sight.

Jordan, your weather luck has floated over to Florida. We have a Tornado Watch in effect for Northren Florida until 4:00p.m. today. People said it is getting really nasty out there. I wouldn't know because I am sucked in a dungeon downtown known as a courthouse. No windows in sight, But on the other hand I have the rhythemic sounds of the prisoners in the holding take to keep me entertained.

Yes, they do! When we lived in Nashville, we had a basement (more like a cellar, just bare earth walls) in our hundred year old home, but all the new homes were built without basements. Weird thing is, they have a LOT of tornadoes there, but never heard of an earthquake in the area. So I always wondered why they stopped building them. In St.Louis we get tornadoes and earthquakes - both rarely, but they do happen - but EVERYone has a basement - full of junk.

Jarring is what happens on Star Tours, Space Mountain, and Dinosaur. Canning is what happens when one is "able". I guess.

Those weren't my words, Jordy asked why there weren't basements in Cali, so I dug to find some information and part of what you took from was someone else's words. I love canned jams and jellies! We grew up on a natural garden (known now as a organic garden ) and we helped my mom can jams, jellies, veggies of all kinds. We of course stored them in our basement. When we moved from CO. back to Kansas we lived on these veggies for quite a while and when we had to start buying from the store I remember thinking how gross canned veggies from the store were.

It was pretty mild in comparison to a few days ago. It is very windy right now. Expecting rain bands all the way until tomorrow night just not steady rain. It's supposed to be cold. It's about 50 right now--cold for SoCal.
