Peel and eat shrimp....YUCK!

My stars and garters, I LOVE pull and peel shrimp, just as I LOVE crab legs. Cracking and ripping apart exoskeletons and digging out the fresh, hot meat, it's so satisfyingly barbaric and delicious. I can't get enough.

Unfortunately, the whole process makes my wife sick to her stomach. When I took the crab claw and pulled on the little tendon and made it open and closed, she lost her appetite. So I will probably keep the pulling and peeling and claw cracking to a minimum.

lol...to me this is less barbaric than eating a huge turkey leg & sucking on the tendons (while you're walking around Disney of course!) :rotfl:

Love shrimp but I'm kind of a shrimp snob. I don't usually like what is offered at buffets---too small!---I don't like to put all that effort into something too tiny....now for jumbo key west pink shrimp, those I would do!

And how can you go to NOLA and not eat barbequed shrimp, shrimp etouffee, and anything crawfish? Otherwise, there isn't any point to going there. Unless you just want to get drunk and I don't do that anymore.

all buffets in Maine are peel and eat shrimp....its not so bad....and we know that they are fresh this way too. Only Shrimp Cocktail ones are naked

I bought 25 lbs of fresh shrimp off a boat this past February and I had to take off the head and feelers and anything else......I have fresh shrimp all summer now ....

Well, tarnation !

Being born and raised on the New England coast, my Mom has informed me that I learned to walk and peel shrimp around the same time, so I really don't know any other way...

Serving shrimp still in the shells they were cooked in is the only way to go for *real* flavor.

Folks that like their shrimp all peeled, deveined and pretty lookin' are the same folks that think the McNugget is the best part of the chicken.

I would personally prefer peel and eat. I live on the coast and this is the ONLY way our local restaurants serve boiled shrimp. Mabye it is a southern thing, but I have only every seen boiled shrimp severd peeled in a shrimp cocktail. Leaving the shell on keeps them from drying out and becoming tough. I just don't see how it would be possible to serve them boiled and pre-peeled. They would not be worth eating by time they sat around peeled waiting to be served.

Agree on all counts. Other than shrimp cocktail or some type of shrimp dip, the peels need to stay on until you're ready to eat them.

I can't QUITE agree because there's a lot to do in New Orleans IMO but I understand your point. The food is amazing. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 A person who knows their seafood...kudos!!

Your have to do some minor surgery when you eat steamers too..especially if you like the necks..you have to peel off the first layer.

I can't imagine eating shrimp (or prawns as we call them) any other way. In fact, we are eating them right now at home. Definitely one of my favourite foods.

You poor unfortunate souls ... you know not what you are missing with clean, beautiful, meaty,VEIN-LESS shrimp!!

yes. fine - but...

does size matter?

I think the little shrimp I've eaten at Disney in the peel and eat do need the flavor additives... but truth be told - I'd so much rather have the larger prawns! these itty bitties matter little!! Bring out some big shrimps!!

I love peel and eat shrimp but not in Disney, they are small, not de-veinded and farm raised so then aren't what I am used to eating up here in Boston. I stay away from P&E shrimp in Disney :)
