Peel and eat shrimp....YUCK!

I hate it at buffets. I'm allergic and when people start peeling, the shrimp "juice" starts flying. ACK! And then shrimpy fingers touch everything, such as the serving spoons. :scared1: If it's a small part of a huge buffet, it's not a big deal. If it's a seafood buffet, I just don't go, since that would be tempting fate. If a table of people next to me sits down with a HUGE plate of shrimp, we ask to be moved.

LOL this thread is so funny to me, I guess when I am walking to my table with a plate of shrimp and see a group of people leaving I will know it was you lol But I promise I have mastered the art to eating them no shrimp "juice" flying from me:rotfl:

Lol, When I make my Low Country Boil I clean the shrimp and take the vein out, I just cant eat them, and they need to boil them with some cajun seasoning and lemon on them! is that what you mean when you say they dont soak enough?

Shhh! cajun secret, if the others find out i'll lose ma cajun carry'n card!
boil ya water with ya seasonin, lemon, onions or whatever ya want to put in dere.
When the water is boiling, add yer shrimp, then, only then you turn off ya heat. Ans dem scrimps start ta cook'n they are also soak'n up the juices as the water cools. they won't take too long to cook yeh, so ya gotta test one or two after 8-10 min, if dey ain't dun yet let em go anotha 5 min.

I do like me some shrimp, however peeling them myself while trying to enjoy a buffet is just too much work. And it really is very messy. If I do have some peel and eat shrimp at the buffet, I eat them first, then visit the rest room for a good hand scrubbing, then return to the table to enjoy the rest of the buffet. But as a previous poster said....the whole process sure cuts back on the amount of shrimp one person might eat.

Won't stop me...:rotfl2:

I completely enjoy the whole process. Peel, eat, peel, eat, peel, eat...send DH to get more for me. LOL

First I have to say LOL to your quote! But I love shrimp and they can be a bit messy to eat it is an art to eating them just like crab legs, But to be honest from a cook caterer chef whatever people want to call me, It is a couple of reasons why they are not peeled and why they are not cleaned.

#1. They are not cleaned nor peel to keep LESS people from eating them
Which if less people are eating them keeps the shrimp demand down and
This saves money

#2. Shrimp cooked in the shell are more flavorful and it keeps the shrimp from
Shrinking. but still can be clean I always clean shrimp for clients, it is a
Tedious task but it is worth it for the patron.:)

#3. They are not cleaned :stir::stir:because that would take time and time time is money

#4. Just imagine if all the boiled shrimp on the Disney Buffets were prepared differently they of course would be cleaned and prepared, like say some were fried, some were scampied some were barbecued the demand for the shrimp would explode like pixiedust:pixiedustpixiedust::"WISHES" I mean the demand would skyrocket,

So I guarantee you they wont peel them or clean them they will leave it up to those that really want to eat them bad enough and I am Disney’s worst nightmare :scared1:cause at Ohana I peel em and clean em at about 10 shrimp to the
minute :rotfl::rotfl:
You would fit right in at my house b/c my mom and I can peel ten pounds in ten min.

You guys! Now I'm drooling all over my keyboard. I love shrimp any way I can get it. And if you want messy, how about some crab legs to go with that shrimp? Yumm!

Those who dig the shelled and non-gutted shrimp and cover them in cajun spices, God bless 'ya's...however...if you ever had shrimp cocktail, properly prepared, cleaned, fresh, cold with a killer cocktail sauce, you'd never go back to that slop...lol. "Clean the damn shrimp...." :thumbsup2

Ok well after reading this thread you guys have reinforced to me why I don't eat shellfish of any kind and I am from the gulf coast and still live here. People look at me like I am crazy around here when I say I don't like seafood. Also if I go over to New Orleans for a visit I just get myself prepared to be starved as apparantly the only thing you can buy to eat over there is seafood and with some kind of cajun flare.....no offense but YUCK!!!

I have form a 4 star restaurant and really, really don't care for it. I don't like horesradish so cocktail sauce is useless for me, and they are waaay to bland otherwise. I say YUCK to shrimp cocktail no matter where it is from. Sorry, but shellfish with no seasoning is just no good after having had the wonderful, flavorful dishes we get around here. No comparision. same goes for steamed lobster with butter. Just don't like it and can't understand why people pay som much for something with so little taste!!

LOL :rotfl:They will never clean them darn shrimp, cleaned shrimp would make us pay even more killer :scared1: prices for WDW buffets I think WDW would take the shrimp off the buffet before they even consider cleaning them

You know us country girls are used to seasoning, and I would take steamed season sweet crab legs with drawn butter and lemon any day over lobster! Once them city slickers go country they won’t ever want to go back city!

WHAT AM I READING HERE?

People, people, people.

There is no other way to eat shrimp! You guys wouldn't last five minutes on the Gulf Coast! :goodvibes

Seriously, that's how you eat boiled shrimp in South LA, and the MS and AL Gulf Coast. :thumbsup2

I guess we don't have to discuss sucking the heads when you eat crawfish! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hey, in Texas too. I ate at 'Ohana with some fellow DISers in May (all from the north) and they were unhappy about the shrimp not being deveined.:confused3

We ate at Cape May this week and the shrimp was extremely yucky. Not only the turds, but soggy and mushy! Never again.

Do people actually peel and devein boiled shrimp before serving? I can see it in shrimp cocktail but otherwise I haven't seen it.

I like boiled shrimp but only if they're not overcooked. Overcooked shrimp is pretty grotesque.

The peel and eat shrimp at Cape May's buffet are favorites of ours!
