Any good pedometers that you have used? I am looking to buy one to take to DW, and thought who better to ask. Thanks.

I have used several "less expensive" ones over the years, but my fanorite (surprisingly) is the free one they gave away at McDonald's last year with a salad purchase. It works great and was an "el cheapo" kind.

If you're just going to use it at WDW I would say pick a less expensive one, cause they work well. I have used the $10.00 one from Oregon Scientific, and it works well and is easy to use. I got it at Wally World.

BTW - I walked over 8 miles a day last time we were at the World!

I always wanted to know how many miles the CM walk that are on the moving walkways....

Isn't it funny - it seems like no matter how many miles I walk at Disney I always seem to gain weight while I'm there - AGH!

I bought a cheap one from Walmart for less than $5 and have used it for a couple trips and it works just fine. I wouldn't invest a lot of money in one b/c I seem to drop/lose/break things while at WDW.

On our last trip the CM who worked at Spaceship Earth said he walks around 14 miles on each shift that he works. He was a senior citizen, too.

Wow that would be cool! I always eat three good meals at Disney but don't snack and end up dropping at least five pounds each trip which is fine with me

Ok here's a dumb question...how do these things work exactly?

They're actually very simple. You wear a pedometer on your beltline, and with each step, a small divice inside bounces up and down. Each bounce advanced the clicker, recording the number of steps.

Before you can use the pedometer, you calibrate it by setting the length of your average stride. The pedometer then multiplies the number of steps by the length of your average stride to come up with the distance you have walked.

Of course, this method is not perfectly acurate, but I have tested my pedometer on known distances and found it to be mighty close (within .05 miles).
