Pediatric Lazy Eye ....

I can't get an appointment until November! :sad2: Nov 6th locally and November 20th in Boston. I am going to stick with the local doctor since she is a pediatric opthamologist who comes up from Boston.

Is there anything I can do in the meantime to help him, aside from making him wear the glasses as much as possible? I feel like that is a lot of time going by as he is inching closer to being 6. I started him on DHA supplements in the off chance that might help his brain growth a little bit more. I also started my 2 year old on the DHA too and will have him screened sooner rather than later.

My children were both diagnosed by a pediatric opthomologist. They were 14 months and 3.5 years.

I can't talk as a parent, I am not one but as someone who has lazy eye try and make sure he uses both eyes don't favour one, when I say that use either the left or the right not only use right or left. Keep the glasses on and try and get an eye specialist appointment before maybe they will get a cancellation. He is far sighted in both eyes which is less of a complication (i am short in one eye long in the other) It is the favouring of one eye that can lead to blindness in the eye not used so its important to make sure he doesn't favour one over the other. At his age they may be able to make sure he has binocular vision but in my case I was told I was born without it. If you find out that he does not have binocular vision just pm me and I can tell you what its like growing up without it. It doesn't mean he cant drive as far as I have found it has led to few problems, I drive I work ok the only thing I can't do is see magic eye picture or the type of 3d that uses green and red lenses.

I am sorry if this worries you but I would rather worry you than that your son looses the sight in one eye and this does happen.

Go see a specialist. My dh had lazy eye as a child and they never treated it.:furious:

He has coke bottle glasses now.

I feel for you. DH was never treated and now is legally blind in his right eye!

OP, go get it checked out. Always err on the side of caution.

where are you located? we have an awesome pedi-ophth in central mass that did my daughter's surgery at 14 mths. She patched until about 10 and she's got perfectly aligned eyes and perfect vision in both. :)

Something that we were told to do with DS once he got glasses, and especially when he was wearing his patch, was to make sure he was doing fine motor/hand-eye coordination activities to force his eyes to focus on small things, rather than watching TV, etc. We usually had him build with Legos, read to us, draw/color/write, etc. This is something you could start now.
