Well, if it wasn't Kool-Aid®, then why should it matter?(And it wasn't kool aid.)
Would you prefer the phrase, "They've eaten the Dole Whip"?
How about, "They've bought the DVC"?

Speaking of hated phrases, when will the kool aid reference be gone from conversation? That refers to mass murder/coaxed suicide. (And it wasn't kool aid.) Can we stop using that to mean "I bought into something that I think is awesome"?
We actually encountered a husband and wife going at each other inside Restaurantosaurus on our last visit. Quite unsettling. Several others had to ask them to tone it down multiple times.
He's not writing a trip report with everything included. He's writing an essay. And he's not writing for the Dis.
And if I write a trip report for our recent trip, right now I still can't find any actual moments of happiness from it in my memories. DH and DS say they had fun but they sure weren't acting like it at all!
It's possible to have a trip without enjoying it. Trust me. (Even when you had every expectation of enjoyment)

Drinking the kool aid is part of popular lexicon. It isn't a personal insult, or mocking anyone. Sarcasm??I totally agree Bumbershoot. I consider it a personal insult and nothing more then mocking/ sarcasm which is not permitted on the dis.

How is it a personal insult to you? Even if you disagree, it won't change how people use the word.Sorry......totally disagree.......AKK

All this talk of Kool Aid has me thirsty.
That said...if you don't know where the term comes from, it actually has a rather morbid history (and explains its meaning and use in the common vernacular).
Google "Jonestown Massacre".

I can only speak for myself, but I am familiar with where the phrase originated. Meanings change as time goes on.All this talk of Kool Aid has me thirsty.

It's 'Merica. The primary thing that changes is the ability to be offended by anything and everything.I can only speak for myself, but I am familiar with where the phrase originated. Meanings change as time goes on.
Right. But the phrase "drinks the kool-aid" meant the way it's meant now (as in, someone who unquestionably supports a position, the "drank the kool-aid") comes directly from that incident.Yes I remember that. The leader poisoned the Kool aid given to the group and they all died. Very sad. However Kool Aid was and is a sweet child's drink and has been around since was a kid in the 50's. We would set up little stand and sell cups of the stuff and make a little money back in the day!

David Harsanyi is a well respected journalist and political commentator. He doesn't need to write a blog post about Disney World to get attention. It's just a light hearted, humorous piece. Jeez.
