Peculiar Op-Ed About WDW

I think it was funny. It's a tough, tough world down here. The heat, plus the crowds, makes everyone loose their mind. I have seen one couple nearly come to blows with each other over which land they wanted to go to at the MK, one mom chew out her three year old who only wanted to nap, a couple threaten divorce with each other at Resturantasous, and in the grand ole'80's, my dad nearly threw a fit when we got to Disney MGM Studios when I realized that I forgot my ticket in the car. So, it's tough, and FP+ and ADRs have made it tougher for folks. And, yeah, I can see it - it's funny. I was also a cm, and can see all the "silly" mistakes people do too (and yes, sometimes we do make just a little fun of it). So, all in all, I get where he's coming from. Not everyone's cup of tea, but ya gotta do it for the kids. And that's the final point in the end, right? :)
I personally could write a huge essay of snark/sarcastic about the best planned vacation that our family took to the Great Lakes. My mom PERFECTLY planned our trip. It was researched, everything - even kid friendly places to go. But it was the worst trip ever (our family still talks about "that trip"!) Too many things went wrong in the perfectly planned trip - starting with the fact it was an RV trip and I get violently motion-sick. Thanks mom and dad! :crazy2: Perfect case of "just cause you plan doesn't mean it's fun".

One of my favorite things to do is read bad Disney experiences or bad reviews on trip advisor. Within a few seconds of reading I can point out exactly why the OP of the negative review had such an issue, be it expectations or lack of planning.

Sounds like:

A) expectations should be lower or
B) planning is required

My bet is that most first time visitors have high expectations and don't do much planning. I wonder how that is good for WDW long term?

This is a really good point. I bet that many newbies don't plan much and then are caught by surprise when they can't get into the restaurant they want or have to wait an hour to ride a popular ride.

I love articles like this. Like PPs said, it's deliberate hyperbole and satire, and meant to be taken as tongue-in-cheek. I also enjoy laughing at myself, because really, i can admit this whole Disney planning thing is a bit cray-cray. You should have heard the pregnant-pause-filled-by-"WHAT?!" when I told a friend of mine (thinking about her first trip) about figuring out where she wants to eat 6 months in advance and what she wants to ride 2 months in advance. C'mom, it is insane. I can appreciate that. But that's the Disney way. And I'm a Disney nut.

But then, on any forum how many people get blustery and indignant over Onion articles? Some people are just that way.

The author of the article is likely lying too.

First of all, Pirates has been closed since early June/late May. Did this article get written and published nearly two months after Pirates was closed?

Second, Under the Sea is not likely to ever see wait times of 50 minutes (unless you believe Josh at easywdw is a liar). Is it possible, yes. But this would be a highly unique experience, not the norm.

Third, as much as some people dislike FP+, it does save time, and the author leaves the impression FP+ did not save his family any time.

Fourth - author gets meticulous details about the overall size of Disney World, but shows an inability to call 'Wild Kingdom' by it's proper name.

Lastly - Nazi? Really? Godwins Law prevails once again - to describe 'pushy'. The author is from NYC, went to Harvard, and likely lives in northern Virginia outside Washington - and somehow, he found the patrons of Disney to be pushy?

If this weren't a family site - I'd suggest the author of the article is full of something other than Pixie Dust.

I'm betting everyone - this Thread is nothing more than click-bait for a political blog.

Moderator - please, throw out the trash.
There is a lot of truth in the satire here.

Lots of people have had experiences waiting in lines only to find out something broke down and they were sent on their way. Test Track is a prime example and if he'd referenced that instead of Pirates would it have been better. It's more a commentary on the experience than the specifics.

We waited 45 min for Little Mermaid last September. Maybe it was bad timing or something happened to the ride but it does happen.

There are lots of arguments and evidence that FP+ does the exact opposite of shortening times. Often you are skipping lines that didn't exist before FP+ and the ones you now wait in are longer than they used to be.

I get that it's not overwhelmingly positive and may not be representative of everyone's experience but I'd bet everyone has shared parts of these sentiments at one point in their Disney experiences.

I can't believe there wasn't at least one moment of happiness.

He's not writing a trip report with everything included. He's writing an essay. And he's not writing for the Dis.

And if I write a trip report for our recent trip, right now I still can't find any actual moments of happiness from it in my memories. DH and DS say they had fun but they sure weren't acting like it at all!

It's possible to have a trip without enjoying it. Trust me. (Even when you had every expectation of enjoyment)

I guess he just lost me at at the word Nazi. I have a great holocaust survivor friend. She was a little girl at the time and managed to survive. To me that is not a throw away word or word to be used in a laughing manner. I'm not a person who is a prude or everything has to be PC 100% of the time but I think it's just a hot button word for me that turned me off at the beginning.

Germans don't like it one bit when you call them that, either.
