So I am hearing nasty rumors that Pecos Bill's has gone to wheat buns and no chair backs. Since that has been confirmed via the reviews of recent meals there, I've noticed that a lot of people are saying that the food is no longer good, and they won't return?

What's your opinion? Pecos Bill's is always the first place we eat when we get to the World...is it as good as it was 2 years ago, or is it not good anymore? Are the Cosmic Ray burgers undergoing the same changes?

Thanks!!!
Kristi

I don't think it is ruined at all! I will say that the wheat buns tend to break apart, but I think they taste just fine. And the no chair backs is not a big deal, because I don't usually hang out there once I am done eating. I still like Pecos Bills.

I prefer wheat buns and could care less about seat backs so I don't see how those two things can ruin the restaurant. I sit on a stability ball in my office at home so I can manage what is essentially a stool for a meal.

If the wheat bun is a deal breaker I'm sure there are food options that come with no bun. They used to have a couple of wraps and a salad or two.

The stool thing was one of those things that happen at WDW which cause a ruckus on the boards and in the Internet communities but 99% of WDW patrons won't even notice. I would be willing to bet that the majority of patrons would just assume those were the seats that were always there.

The whole wheat buns don't taste bad, they just fall apart. Yep, they have the same ones at Cosmic Ray's...I got a double cheeseburger and they bun just disintegrated as I was eating. As far as the backless seats go at Pecos Bill, I didn't think it was a big deal, didn't bother us at all.

I ate there in October and it wasn't too bad. I did not eat the burger, but I probably should have. I had a wrap instead and those are pre-made so it was very soggy when it was served. I think the condiment bar (pickle chips and liquid cheese yummm) makes up for any negative aspect. I did not notice any discomfort with the wooden backless chairs, which is surprising because my lack of a behind and not having back support normally bothers me.

We were the in November, '09 and I didn't notice the chairs. I realized it when I came back & read it here. "hey, they were stools!":goodvibes

We were there 3 weeks ago and Pecos Bills was always my fav place to eat. I was disappointed this time as I found the selection and the food not up to par.

Two days ago I had the angus burger at Pecos Bill's. I really liked it, and the bun was more "solid" than other wheat buns around the parks. It certainly didn't fall apart.

I ate there a few weeks ago. I don't do burgers, so I can't comment on the first question, but I'm pretty sure my seat had a back.

I wasn't happy with my Taco Salad from Pecos Bill's though. Handing me an empty tortilla bowl and telling me to make my own salad out of hamburger toppings is not worth $8.50 in my opinion...

More of my thoughts about the restaurant on my blog:

I don't eat the bread so it doesn't affect me. No backs on the chairs didn't bother me either but I tend to lean on the table. In fact I thought that there were backs but I don't use them!

Pecos Bill is not supposed to be a sophisticated type of thing. They are trying to make some healthier options with the wheat buns and if they fall apart well thats all part of the fun isnt it. If you are looking for a relaxed, quick meal I would definately still suggest this. The pulled pork sandwich is a great addition and now they also have self service touch screen technology which speeds up the check out process.

The messier the better! :rotfl:

People keep making it out like the no stools thing is new, but it's not (well depends on your definition of new). Sometime in 2009 there were a zillion posts on this "new" thing about the stools and everyone was ranting and raving about how terrible it was going to be. But I have photos from June 2008, so a full 18+ months ago and that's what they had then too. I know they did have chairs at one time, I remember that -- but honestly, I'm not sure that many people even noticed the change since it has been that way for close to 2 years, at a minimum.

And the buns -- are the buns. Same everywhere in the World now. I don't like them that much but it's not going to stop me from eating.

I can deal with stools with no backs, but if I don't have to I won't. After spending the first 3-4 hours of the day walking around a hot park, I really look forward to sitting down in the air conditioned restaurant and kick back for a few minutes to relax while I refuel. It's hard to kick back when there is no back. So I avoid Pecos Bills for just that reason, and prefer Pinocchios or Columbia Harbor House.

Unfortunately, my wife cannot eat wheat. I assume they have some other bun option? Does anyone know?

As far as I know there is no other option for the bun.

You may want to try and post on the allergy boards to see what options she will be able to have.

To OP, yes they have the stools now, but they are very big comfy stools. Not at all what you think of for stools.
They are big block looking things with padding. (if I remember right). I thought it wasn't going to be comfortable, but was surprised. We sat there close to 45 mins while eating and was completely refreshed to continue our day.

We LOVE PBs and will return there each time we are in MK. I and both of my girls don't even get the burgers but rather the taco salads so the buns don't affect us, however it does affect DH because he always gets the pulled pork sandwich, as long as it is on a bun, he doesn't care what it is made from. As for the chairs we don't care what the seats look like, just as long as we get one. To tell you the truth, most of the CS restaurants (not all because there are still some out there) are switching, in they haven't already, to the whole wheat buns, not just Pecos Bills.

Personally I do not like the food there....the burgers are nasty! I wish I ordered the new chicken fried chicken plate because that looked wonderful

I like the buns, I've never had a problem with the them falling apart. They've had stools for as long I remember, since aleast 2005.
