Pecos Bills-Ruined or not?

For the post about food allergy non-wheat buns. Disney does have their rice rolls that are used across property for buns. They really are dry and need to be warmed up to be good. At a CS I don't know if they have them or not. You could call Disney and ask. I am sure somebody on the board would know who to call for sure. I have read posts how people with gluten allergies have ate at CS, Disney did serve them gluten free food. We always have mad TS adrs' for this reason, I too am gluten free and I just don't want to chance it.

I do find it odd Disney people think there choice of "wheat buns" are healthy for their guests. Wheat is wheat, doesn't matter if it is white (bleached out) or non bleached. 100% whole wheat buns are just using 100% non processed wheat flour and yes, those would be dry in the mouth. Wheat buns that are not 100% whole wheat flour are a mix of the 100% wheat flour and bleached flour. Nurtrient wise, they are the same but not as dry. Disney could purchase buns that are white wheat that are packed full of fiber. They are on the market. By using 100% whole wheat buns Disney needs to serve those buns fast because they just have a short shelf life.

If I could eat wheat like I did years ago, I would prefer the taste of 100% whole wheat buns. What people are describing tells me Disney buns are stale.100% whole wheat buns have a nutty taste to them but they have to be fresh to be good. You would think Disney would have a high turnover of the product but sure doesn't sound like it. Kathy

when we were there in September, they informed a person in front of us that the buns are whole grain not whole wheat.....yes they did fall apart and made the hamburger experience less then desirable.....we dont eat hamburgers at home fast food or occasionally homemade burgers ....so we always looked forward to their burgers.

Hmmmm I may bring a pkg of my favorite buns that dont fall apart.

We ate there in September of 2009 and enjoyed it. We did not mind the backless stools and we enjoyed our food (my mom had the chicken fried chicken platter and I had the taco salad).

We had burgers there this past weekend and ate outside at the wooden tables/stools. The burgers/buns were good and the stools were not uncomfortable. In fact, I thought the buffet food quality was not as good as the quick service food quality, but I think it's jsut a matter of preference.

the Cosmic Ray burgers undergoing the same changes?
Yeah, no chair backs on the burgers at Cosmic Ray's, either.

If the wheat bun is a deal breaker I'm sure there are food options that come with no bun. They used to have a couple of wraps and a salad or two.
Or the burger eaten with a knife and fork :)

I wasn't happy with my Taco Salad from Pecos Bill's though. Handing me an empty tortilla bowl and telling me to make my own salad out of hamburger toppings is not worth $8.50 in my opinion...
Probably, though, a natural progression that can be ascribed to (in other words, blamed on :rotfl2: ) all the Guests who took it upon themselves to use the toppings bar AS a salad bar :rolleyes1 ;)

I can't speak for Peco Bill's as I've never eaten there - even though it's been on the schedule for the last 3 trips but somehow always seems to get bumped. But the buns are pretty much the same across property. They taste fine but they are a bit crumbly. Our first Disney meal this past trip was at Flame Tree BBQ - 5 of the 6 kids got the kids hot dog meals (the 6th was under 3 and shared food). All 11 of us had on matching white, custom-made shirts - all of the kids were covered in ketchup and my cousin's and oldest dd's shirts also had ketchup on them from trying to clean up the kids. After that, the kids weren't allowed to have ketchup on their hot dogs or burgers for the rest of the trip. It was one seriously messy meal and that wasn't even from those having the BBQ meals.

I can't tell if you're serious or not... but if you are, don't forget a small plastic storage container, maybe one of the Rubbermaid (am I allowed to mention brand names?) collabsible ones.

okey dont tell a soul but my husband WAS serious.....we had one burger in september and it fell apart.....SO if we bring them we will go up to the counters and say no buns please and then sit down and whip out our tupperware or rubbermaid containers with our buns in them......get the condiments and be happy campers.....

I wonder if he was serious....hmmmmmm taking the two youngest grandkids so just may do this...but we maybe get one or two burgers when we are in disney.for some reason they always tasted so good....UNTIL the big switch a roo...

For some reason on each of our last two trips I for some reason think I like it there and want to eat there, but once I get my meal, I always say I'd rather of gone to Cosmic Rays. I will say the no backs on the chairs is annoying to me, especially with kiddos.

I ate there Feb. 7 and had the "Ceasar Salad" which consisted of Salad and grated cheese....that was IT!:confused3 I had to put the "ceasar Salad" dressing on myself, and that was NASTY!:headache: Also, the Salad was chunky and I had to be careful, as I choked on one of the "Lettuce Leaves" which was not too pleasant. I was up all night, burping due to the "dressing" which was awful!:sad2: So, I guess I will stick to the Burgers!

I just returned from Disney and we ate at Pecos twice and I have to say the food was awesome. The 1/3 Angus Cheeseburgers were incredible; the wheat buns actually made them better, especially when I loaded the fresh grilled mushrooms from the Taco Salad Bar. My wife and oldest DD were thrilled with the Taco Salad Bar. I would definitely go back there again when we return.

Cosmic Ray's were also good, especially the 8 piece chicken nuggets; a little bit of spice and deep fried really well.

pecos bill has been and will remain one of my favs. i ate there this past weekend and the wheat bun was firm and tasted great.

Whoa! This is such an old thread, I'm surprised that anyone actually found it. :) Do you think maybe they've recently improved the buns? The ones we had at Cosmic Ray's last November were just awful, they didn't taste bad, they just tasted like...nothing.

I stick to the chicken wrap so I don't care about the buns. I can even get some salsa to put on it.

The chair change took place awhile ago, and the bun change is all over property. That being said I loved the burger I had at Pecos Bill's in April, and the still have the best toppings bar in the park.

Didn't they try an experiment with a CM getting you a table at Pecos Bills? Is that still going on?

They have CMs seating guests only at the most crowded times, on a day to day basis. It's only done when they feel the crowds are high enough to warrant it, so you should see it only at peak mealtimes at the most crowded times of the year.

I remember a few years ago having a "fall apart" bun on a Pecos Bill's burger, and I hadn't been back until my July trip. I had the Angus deluxe burger this time, and the bun seemed to hold up better than the "traditional" burger offering.

Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like a noticeable difference. I really liked the Angus burger much better than I expected. It was MILES above the horrendous ABC Commissary burger for sure. (Another place I don't eat, but I didn't have a choice if I wanted to be social.)

We were there 3 weeks ago and Pecos Bills was always my fav place to eat. I was disappointed this time as I found the selection and the food not up to par.

I felt the same. We were there for the first 2 weeks of October. I don't usually eat bread but DD and I traded some of the food on our plates and I thought the wheat bun was pretty good. I have never noticed the seat backs much. I am just thankful to find a table in there  I have to say I didn't like the chicken this time. I always go there a few times a trip for the chicken salad and the salad wrap and each time this trip I removed all the chicken and left it. Tender is one thing, but damp is another. I also had to do a dash back there one night while waiting for the parade because they had forgotten to give us our desserts (my fault for not checking at the time). They seemed to be struggling a bit at the back for some reason. Not sure if they were short staffed. I will go back though. I have always liked it and I am willing to write it off to a temporary issue.
