If you are allergic to peanuts or trying to avoid them due to pregnancy or nursing, be sure and ask if they come on any ice cream treats you order. I was upset that my sundae at 50's Prime Time was covered in them. I had to scoop off all the whipped cream :sad2: Do have to say, our waitress did offer to bring me another one when she saw what I had done. I told her it was OK - love to cut off my nose to spite my face at times. Working on that though. Anyway, just a warning.

I'm really confused.

Why on earth wouldn't you meantion a food allergy before you order?

I'm allergic to a long list of foods, and I ALWAYS talk to the server and/or chef about my allergies before I place the ordre. Not to do so would just be foolish and dangerous IMHO.

It's pretty commonplace to put peanuts and walnuts on ice cream.

I would have to disagree. Nuts on ice cream would seem like an option, not a rule.

The point is that with a food allergy you ALWAYS NEED TO ASK!!

I'm not allergic to nuts, but I do not like them. I always ask for no nuts on my sundae, as they are usually standard. Communicating my wishes greatly enhances my ice cream experience.

Had I forgotten to mention an allergy, I would have absolutely requested an entirely new sundae (and offered to pay for it as well). Of course, different people have varying degrees of sensitivities, but for those with a true peanut allergy, a peanut fragment or two dripped down from the whipped cream into the ice cream could be lethal. What if the kitchen houses the peanuts right by the chocolate sauce and some inadvertently got tossed over? How about peanuts left on the ice cream scoop from the last scoop of Rocky Road from the sundae before? Making the restaurant aware of an allergy allows them at least a chance to specially prepare your food (perhaps by opening a fresh container, using a clean scoop, etc.).

Just a thought! Glad you didn't get sick this time around. :flower:

Um, I didn't quite get that. What's your point?

Not the OP, but to me, she meant that if you have a food allergy, always ASK whether the item you're ordering contains something to which you're allergic. For instance, if ordering at Chick-Fil-A, it wouldn't occur to most people with peanut allergies that they'd have a problem; however, their items are fried in peanut oil and as such aren't tolerated by those with peanut allergies. Peanuts lurk in some strange places!

Oops, sorry! Ignore my last reply then - I thought it was a real question, totally missed the dupe post!

You are confused because you *assumed* the OP has a food allergy, when she never said that she did.

She was very nicely trying to warn people that do have a food allergy that peanuts come on the sundae.

I agree that it is important to let the server know if you do have a peanut allergy. They might use the same spoon to scoop up peanuts that they use for chocolate chips, etc.

I do not have a peanut allergy, but I am a nursing mother. I try and stay away from peanuts, just in case (still a little controversy in the medical community on whether it is OK to eat them or not during pregnancy and nursing).

Also, I have two little ones - age 1 and age 3, and I am very careful with them. My pediatrician actually told us they are now recommending waiting until age three to let them eat peanuts, though I do think that is mainly for families with a history of peanut allergy.

Believe me, I know those with life threatening allergies are always on top of this, and they do think of it. I just wasn't thinking about them showing up on the sundae, since I am more of a casual peanut avoider at this point.

My post was in an effort to help others out there like me - nursing Moms, mother's of young children who haven't yet had peanuts, and those expecting. Sorry I didn't make that clearer to start :)

My son is allergic to peanuts. When we went to the 50's PrimeTime cafe the chef came out and talked to us and OFFERED to open a BRAND NEW thing of ice cream if my ds wanted any for dessert.

Just let them know of any food issues you have- they are very accomodating.

It's also important to note that if you do have food allergies, and are making priority seatings, that the Cm's do have the ability to note the reservation with the specific allergy.
