My daughter is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and I see that some restaurants offer peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. Does anyone know if these are the Smuckers pre-packaged sandwiches. Thanks.

I have seen them at counter service restaurants and they were the Smuckers Prepackaged Uncrustables.

All of the ones we have seen at the CS places are the ones by Smuckers, but at one TS ( I can not for the life of me recall which one) they brought my son a sandwich that seemed to be "home made".

My daughter is allergic to peanuts as well-- we avoid all nut as a precaution. We've never had issues with WDW food-- the chefs are amazing. It shows you how easily food allergies can (and SHOULD) be handled! Good luck planning, and have a great trip!

Thanks for your responses. I'm glad to hear that they seem to be the Smucker's prepackaged. We want to do the 1900 Park Fare Cinderella dinner and I noticed the sandwich was on the menu. I will double check when I make reservations about that restaurant. There is a lot of great info here about the food allergies. Again, thanks.

Just to be aware, I have seen more peanut butter sandwiches eaten by children on benches throughout the park than I have in resturants. DGS is a Peanut allergy kid too. I feel like we are safer in a resturant where we are sure to wipe down any table surface than we are places where we may not expect peanut butter.

Be sure to list the allergy on your ADR and to speak with a chef. (They'll generally bring your child specially cooked platters of the food they are interested in to avoid the risk of cross-contamination from the buffet lines.)

I agree that once you do that the TS restaurant should be safer than the benches. We definitely bring PB sandwiches and bags of nuts with us to eat during a break in our day. (I appreciate that those with peanut allergies would prefer that I bring something else, but, the reality is that with my own allergies it is very difficult for me to get protein out of the CS locations and other options that I could bring myself are really difficult to prepare without a full kitchen.) I do my best not to spread contact dust around, but, I'm sure I'm not perfect and I doubt others are either.

While I have heard people say that this is done for some allergies, this is not always offered for foods when you are dealing with peanut and tree nut allergies - which is what my child has. In a buffet restaurant, the chef always walks us through the buffet line and tells us what is and isn't safe. Generally only the breads and desserts aren't safe - and it is almost always a cross-contamination issue vs. the items actually containing nuts. I will ask for an alternative bread and dessert to be prepared in the kitchen, but we've always eaten off the buffet line.

At Disney, they seem to avoid putting peanuts and tree nuts in most of their items, and once the chef learns that we are "just" dealing with those two allergens, they typically say something like "that's easy" - meaning there isn't that much to worry about (relatively speaking vs. other multiple food allergies) in their restaurant. They definitely take it seriously. Hope you have a great trip!

Yes, if you are dealing with a buffet where things are separated. But, if there are PB sandwiches sitting beside the chicken nuggets, they will make you a safe set of chicken.

I've found that only certain chefs volunteer to make safe food for me, but, that if I'm concerned about the possibility of contamination as I look at layout and ask, I've never been turned down.

(It's true that they think about PB and tree nut allergies more consistently than other allergies, but, I think if you are concerned, you can still make the request.)

While this was not at a Disney restaurant but a off-site restaurant close to the parks, I was pleasantly surprised at Golden Corral when I asked if the could get me some beans from the kitchen as the tray that was out had been contaminated by an item I am allergic to. Not only did they comply, they immediately removed the tray and replaced it with a new tray that was not contaminated. Bravo. Even some the restaurant near the parks are getting better in dealing with allergies. Now if my local Golden Corral would do the same.

My DD is only tree nut allergic. Only 1 chef in our 4 trips has offered to plate it in the kitchen. However, I am more comfortable not taking the risk of cross contamination with the serving ware and have always requested they plate her food in back. I've never been turned down and the chefs are usually happy to accomodate.

I agree with this...on park benches, on sidewalks waiting for parades, on Disney buses (even though you're not supposed to eat on them), in shows, waiting on lines for attractions. We've had to leave the Nemo show and the line in BTMRR before because children next to us were eating sandwiches with peanut butter on them. Not going to ask them not to eat them, so we left. It's a bummer to deal with, but a fact of life for us. Just be aware that you may encounter a similar situation...

I just thought I'd mention that a year ago at Cape May Cafe, they had peanut butter brownies sitting next to the chicken nuggets in the kid's area of the buffet. Actually, they were sitting on a higher ledge, but sort of "overlooking" the nuggets. The crumbs could have easily fallen into the kid's food.

Due to this incident, we will always have dd's food plated in the kitchen in the future at buffets. We keep a lookout for peanut butter sandwiches, but we also need to watch for things like peanut butter brownies and other nut-containing items as well.

I just wanted to say this is all great info. We are going shortly and my DD has peanut/tree nut/egg allergies and it is very reasuring to hear they are great with allergies.

I've noted it on all my reservations and sent the form into Special Diets.

I do worry about "random" PNB sightings but we always take a lot of wipes and make sure we keep DD's hands clean and wipe table surfaces etc. Although it is nerve wracking, I hope we can have fun!

dizcrazee thanks for that tidbit, I'm going to request separate plating as well.

You are very welcome, atmail35. Our vacations to Disney World mean a lot to us because whenever we try to go somewhere else on vacations, our restaurant options are extremely limited, which kind of puts a damper on things.

We have a blast at WDW because we feel like we are free to eat in *almost* any restaurant that takes our fancy, just like non-FA people do all the time. In fact, I have really warm feelings toward Disney as a company because of the way they try really hard to accommodate people with life threatening food allergies. We will always go back, as long as we are able, year after year, because of this.

My FA daughter even hopes to have her wedding there - she LOVES Disney World because of this. She's at an age where a lot of kids start thinking they are "too cool" for Disney, but not her. She really appreciates the way that they make it possible for her to eat out and enjoy herself. She looks forward to our trips all year long and helps me plan our dining reservations.

However, all this doesn't mean that we don't exercise caution while we are there. We are extremely careful at all times, even at WDW.

Have a fabulous time on your trip! :thumbsup2

I haven't been there in about a year, so it may have changed. But Tusker House (a buffet) at AK had a huge open tub of peanut butter in the children's area. It was really messy and all over the place.

as of recently there has been no open tubs of PB at any buffets I have been at in the last 4 months. This includes Chef Mickeys breakfast & dinner,
CP lunch & dinner, cape may breakfast & dinner and 1900 Park faire dinner
I remember one being at tusker house a WHILE ago but I haven't eaten there in over a year.

MIL said she doesn't remember one recently although she may not remember 100% ,they ate there 2 weeks ago.

I do know they told us a while ago due to PN allergies they have removed tubs of PB at Buffets.

I really hope they got rid of that at Tusker. I made a comment about it when I was there, but I saw it again a couple of months later. But again - that's been at least a year.

I don't have a peanut allergy, but it was very messy and not particularly appetizing. Just imagine kids having spent hours with their spoons, knives and hands in this huge tub.

It just wasn't a good move on a lot of levels.
