Peanut Allergy

Back to Allergies at WDW-
We were treated wonderfully at each and every food service location when dealing with DD4's egg allergy on our trip last September.
CS Restaurants have a big looseleaf binder that has allergy information for everything on the menu. TS Restaurants and buffets will get the chef to answer your questions or physically walk the ENTIRE buffet with you.
Don't be afraid to ask for help-you will get it.

I do not make the rules, I am just reporting my observations. Canada seems to be more sensitive to these safety issues.

But to address your question... Latex / Shell fish / Milk / etc... These allergies, will give you a rash, upset stomach, diarreha, etc...
Peanuts Kill - in minutes. It's called anaphylactic shock, in which your airwaves get obstructed, and you can't breath. And with all due respect, it seems to be enough of an issue to cause concern for the OP (a 60 year old man).

Actually ANY type of allergy that is severe can kill in MINUTES. Latex, shellfish, fish in general, mushrooms, bee stings, strawberries, various medicines, etc. ANY of those can cause anaphylactic shock. So the poster to whom you were responding wasn't over exaggerating. I tend to agree - if you're going to bend over backwards for one, you should for all. Especially because you never know when an allergy WILL strike. I have a friend and former co-worker who has never had a problem with peanuts and all of a sudden she started itching and wheezing after having something with peanuts or peanut butter and has developed an allergy.

...Afterall, it's a step in the right direction, it's a step in the right direction afterall...

Gotta start somewhere!

Yes, we have to start somewhere, but a ban is impossible to police, and sets a legal precedent for the school system that can't be enforced.

The disABILITIES forum has a huge supply of info in stickies at the top of its forum. Disney does a fantastic job with all types of allergies, probably the best of any place that I've ever visited.

I would like to thank everyone for your responses.:grouphug: It is making me feel a bit more comfortable knowing how helpful they seem to be at Disney. Being the planner of this trip I just want to make our friend feel a bit more comfortable also. He just developed this allergy a few months ago so even he, himself is worried about everthing he eats. A few times now he ate something with just a trace of peanut thinking it was a food that was OK and a few hours later either his lips would swell or the side of his face would swell. He and his wife both also carry the Epi pen that the Dr. gave them just in case of emergency. We are going to the World to celebrate our anniversaries together and I would like to make it as stress free as possible.:disrocks:
