Hi All,

I use PayPal for buying online , from eBay etc but just a word of warning.

There are some bogus e-mails doing the rounds that appear they have been sent by PayPal but have not.

ANY mail from PP must have copyright information at the bottom of it - I received a mail yesterday thanking me for $400 purchase of a watch I knew nothing about.

If you receive anything similar report to PP immediatley, chances are it's not come from them - if you have doubts about any mails NEVER respond to them, always contact PP first.

My mail offered me the chance to reply disputing the transaction, never do this.

Thanks for that Johnny my DH always uses paypal. Must admit he has never bought anything over £10 - £15 on ebay just incase luckily we have never had any problems with any thing we have had off there.

Thanks for letting us know, I use PayPal quite alot.

You are welcome, most things we have bought over eBay have been toys for Joshua etc, it is not the first time I have received a strange mail that initially appeared to come from PayPal.

If anyone ever receives one you can PM me if you like, not that I am an expert but could be similar to the mails I have received. :)

Both Ebay and Paypal say that they will never send e-mails to a member asking for sensitive information, financial or personal, and if they need to get in contact they will only ever do this on line once you have logged on so if anyone recieves potentially dodgy e-mails just get in touch with ebay or paypal and they will investigate. I have sent them a few in the past couple of years. :crazy2:

I've been getting a lot more of these emails also.
Simple rule is never take the link in an email unless you are 100% what you will find. Always log on properly in your usual way to any on-line account. If the email is genuine then your account will also show that there is a query/message.

It's a scam called "Phishing" - sending you a genuine looking e-mail, trying to steal information. Beware of any e-mails from banks, financial institutions, Paypal or eBay requesting you to log in and give them information. Check out the URL in the note - it is always forged. Check out the e-mail headers if you are technically inclined, it will show the source.

Beware....

Hi

I had one of these a few weeks back, asking me just to reconfirm all my details,I immedatley got in touch with pay pal and they asked me to send them a copy, which I did, they then confirmed that it was a scam.

Over the last 6 weeks in work, I have received them from all the so called Major Banks, Building Societys, and Ebay. :(

Sue :cutie:

Send them to spoof@ ebay.co.uk, paypal.com etc etc
I probably get in the region of 4/5 a day

Although SIL answer one, week before Christmas and had her ebay account hacked. Joker was selling brand new Nokias (lots of 45) for £150 under her ebay id so had history and feedback to make it look legit :confused3 . You would think that price would have been a giveaway. Inspite of lots of communication took over a week before ebay closed the auctions.

We've noticed an uptick in phishing messages containing the text "PayPal Email ID PP321" at the bottom. Be on the lookout for them and delete them without clicking on one of the links.

its always worth being reminded about these emails, thanks johhny :)

That's ok Natalie - always glad to pass on to everyone - thanks for all the responses :)

Hi,
The fake e.mail claiming to be from paypal will address you as somthing like "Dear paypal user". Paypal always addres it customers by name.
You should check your account activity often.

Never log into your account through an e.mail link always log in by going to the paypal website

if you get a suspect mail forwrd it to spoof@paypal.com so that they are aware of it.

Also be aware that similar e.mails are going around claiming to be from banks.

Good reminder thanks. I had a dodgy e-mail (not from) eBay recently but luckily was suspicious and reported it!

I love the ones suposidly from 'banks' wanting A/C detail confirmed when I don't have business with them. I guess it costs nothing to send out the e-mails and it only needs one person to fall for it... :sad1:

Good advice everyone!
