My situation - I bought an item for $115.00, which turned out to be an obvious scam. I had paid through Paypal with $25.00 that was saved in my Paypal account, and $98.00 from my credit card. Once I learned I was scammed I filed a dispute with Paypal. Paypal's policy is to give the seller 10 days to respond, so after about the 5th day I got nervous and contacted my credit card company. They did a chargeback for the $98.00 that had been put on my credit card. Once I did that, Paypal immediately closed my dispute (without refunding my $25.00). I contacted them about the $25.00 and this is my reply...

Dear Shelley,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

By going to your credit card company, you forfeit your buyer protection.
When you file a dispute/claim with PayPal we will do an investigation, and
when it's decided in your favor, we will issue you a full refund. This
case is now closed and will not be looked into.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Dan

So - I'm sure this is my fault for not reading through all the details of their dispute policy, and I do feel lucky that I am only out $25.00 - but I did want to warn others not to make this same mistake.

PayPal doesn't like chargebacks, you have to remedy the situation through them. You are lucky they didn't lock your account completely. There used to be a website with horror stories PayPal sucks dot com or something.

I bought an item from a fradulent seller one time and filed with Paypal. They just pretty much said: sorry he has cleaned his account out so we can't recover your money.
So much for buyer protection there......... I am very careful and seldom buy off of ebay for this reason. You never know who/what you're dealing with:confused3 .

I am going through paypal resolution right now too. I bought some disney decals for my car and the item never arrived and the seller will not respond to any emails we have sent.:headache:
Hopefully paypal resolves these problems.:headache:

I have only had to contact PayPal one time about a fraudlent EBay buy but it went very smoothly. Of course it was for a much smaller amount and all of it came out of my paypal account. Thanks for the warning about the fine print.

I don't do much through ebay or paypal, but the one time I had a problem it was my fault, the buyer disbuted, I give them the money back the same day and we both walked away with good feedback... so I am lucky.

Thanks for the warning OP, I can see doing that myself. Glad to have the warning.

I have been had by e bay twice thankfully the items was only 7 dollars each. I was just thankful not to have spent more. I quit buying from e bay unless it is just a few dollars.

Ooh that's rotten.

Paypal is a lot better than it used to be (the paypal sucks dot com days were back BEFORE ebay took control of them, and they used to be incredibly HORRIBLE...I worked CS for amazon.com and for some reason people would always tell me about their paypal experiences while I was on the phone with them helping them with amazon orders), but there can definitely still be problems!

I had to put in a claim with paypal and they said they could not help me since the seller had closed their account with them. I contacted my credit card company and they did a charge back. Paypal contacted me and told me that if I did that again, they would close my account. I told them if I had to do that again, they could close my account, I would never use them again :sad2:

Two years ago, I had three bad Ebay deals, two were small...one was $132.00. I didn't know that Paypal had a limit on resolutions per calander year, so I was out the $132.00. That ended my Ebay buying. I had let the money come directly out of my Paypal account, I wish I would have had a credit card company to have called.
