Just thought I'd share this with the good people of this board by way of a warning.

I received an email this morning purporting to be from Paypal asking me to send all sorts of financial information due to a change of server. It looks EXTREMELY authentic but is clearly a scam because,

1. I don't have a paypal account, never have
2. The site you are taken to is not secure ie starts http not https
3. No legitimate company would ever ask for your credit card details in an email
4. They even want you to input your ATM PIN number!
5. Paypal are renowned for being the subject of fraudulent scams.

I also subscribe to another message board concerned with my other passion in life (motor bikes) and a great number of them have been on this morning to say they also received the paypal email today, so it is obvioulsy been spammed around the world.

I would hate to think of any disers being taken in by this but as I said it does look VERY authentic and we all know that there are some very gullible people out there.

I was "taken" by something similar--but it was an eBay scam. After I entered the info and submitted it, I felt REALLY strange about it and ended up cancelling credit and debit cards and getting new ones issued. I also changed all my id's and passwords on the Web. It was a pain, but at least I have been safe thus far (knock on wood!) Thanks for the info--maybe it will save someone else the hassle that I went through!

No its not disney related, pardon me for trying to do someone a favour and prevent some poor soul getting ripped off.

I got this same email and forwarded it to Paypal. They confirmed that it is fraudulent! I hope no one was taken by this.
Maybe we should have this thread moved to the Community Board to better help our fellow DISers.

I have also received similar from "paypal" (not), "ebay" (not) and just today, "visa" (not) . . I've even received one from "earthlink" (not). NEVER give your info out.

If you think the emails might be legit, get on the phone with a number you KNOW is legit and call and ask the company direct.

Just curious, why not click on "blue" links?

And also, even though this isn't theme park related, as a public service announcement I think the thread should be allowed to circlulate for awhile - there is no harm done in helping people legitamately protect themselves.

Thank you for the "heads up." It's nice that we can act like a community and look out for each other. I appreciate the info.;)

Thanks so much for the info..I also received an e-mail as you had described..however unlike you I do have an account with Paypal... I used to work within a department that dealt with credit card theft..and found their request not in the norm and chose to ignore it.

Thanks for validating my concerns,
Vivian
