Anybody ever get an email from PayPal stating,

128-bit incription they recently noticed a log in attempt from a foreign IP address and that they feel it was used by a third party without my authorization.

There is a link to go to to re-verify all my information. My brother got burned by something like this and I started to fill it out. It was the PayPal site, and it asked me to re-log in and all. I just freaked wondering if it was a scam. If I don't do anything, they will suspend my account.

Anyone have this problem?

I get those letters all the time...I just delete them. If they really want my info they will have something on their site and when I go to paypal.com it will be there...otherwise I answer NO email even if it looks like its from paypal (which 99.9 percent of the time it is NOT)

Hiya :)

I've had a few of these recently, very suspect... one even told me I'd supposedly registered a new email address on my account and the email address was something completely bizarre....They were all spam.

The best thing to do is not click on any links in emails. Forward them to spoof@paypal.com (or spoof@ebay.com if its a supposed ebay email) and they will let you know whether they are safe or not.

If you have already filled stuff out I don't know if your account may be compromised. Forward the email to spoof address and you will get instructions back on what to do if you've clicked the address.

Hope that makes sense and good luck :)

I did find on their site on where to send it, etc. I did that, and we'll see what happens. Funny if it is bad, it sure looks real!!

I did go to the site and there was nothing about the email information. I thought maybe I would be locked out, or it would take me somewhere to re-verify and all. nope. I am really suspicious now!!

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!

There are many of these phishing schemes out there. Paypal, eBay, and banks have stated that they do NOT send links in e-mails. If there were a real problem, you would be notified when you tried to log in.

These scam artists can create very authentic-looking web sites, even spoofing the URL at times.

Play it safe and change your passwords.

If you're worried, contact PayPal and ask them.

look at the first address. I didn't even click on the link.. I know they are realistic.

First off the web address is numbers/letters, not anything that says paypal or stuff. I always hover over my scam paypal emails and sure enough its never a paypal(esque) address.

In the actual email, the link that is highlighted is www.paypal...etc. it is when you click on it that address is in the bar! What a scam!!

Someone is very active today. I have received 2 separate EMails from "paypal" . Both stated I had told them I forgot my password and gave me instructions on how to reset. I haven't used paypal in months! I sent both to spoof@paypal.com.

Yep, got both of those today too Robin...

Last week, I got several from ebay, supposedly.........another scam...I just delete them.

Absolutely, unequivocally and without a doubt a totally scam email you got there. Paypal themselves has said many times that if there were ever a problem with your account they would never send a link for you to log in. They do not flag accounts based simply on the ISP from which someone logged in. Heck, I've done it from work, my sister's house, my husband's laptop, my neighbors, my father in laws house etc. All over the country for heaven's sake! Don't even wait around for them to answer. It was a scam. The scam artists are getting better at this since people have gotten more savvy at spotting them. Good thing you didn't log in using the link!

Either there's a user who's login is you@are and who's password is verypantsatthis or it's a fake :)

They are always fake and I click on the links to see how good the page looks, but I never actually get the page. Every time I click on the link in these fake emails, I get a "page not found" error.

One thing to look for in these "phishing" scams is the greeting in the email. When a bank or company sends you something legitimately, it will in most cases have your name on it. Another thing to remember, the bank or company already has your information, so why would they want you to go to a website and "verify your information"? They have other ways to do this.

Just some friendly reminders from a banker. Back to lurk mode and WDW in 48 hours. :earsboy:

The point Rich is trying to make is a good one.....when you are not sure make up an e-mail address and a password. If it takes it is a fake. If it doesn't that doesn't necessarily make it real but it is one more method to validate.
