DH and I are heading down for a no kids long weekend 5/8-5/13. Running some quick numbers it looks like we would come out ahead with the DDP. How confusing is it if we wanted to use DDE as well for our OP expenses? Not a huge difference so is it easier to just stick with the DDE? Thanks!

We used both last year for all of our meals and it was not confusing at all. The best help to keep it simple is to be very clear with your server. When presented with the bill we'd state.

"We're using the Dining Plan for the meals and using the DDE for the additional items. Please charge the additional to our room."

This year, because tip needs to be run at the time that meal credits are swiped, you'll need to add the gratuity to the total before presenting your cards.

Not sure what you mean here, Tricia. We used the deluxe plan along with DDE last week and just presented our KTTW and DDE card together when the server first brought the checks. We did advise at the beginning of each meal that we would be using both when asked if we were on any type of dining plan.

Did you receive one bill or two? If one, did the suggested tip include the DDE purchases without the discount? Thanks, now if I could just figure out where we are going so I can figure out where we are eating.........

DDE purchases should be on a separate bill and will include the 18% automatic gratuity for those purchases.

Didn't you have to add your gratuity to the DDP portion before presenting the cards?

This is how I thought it would work this year, but I may be thinking wrong.
-Server brings receipts
-Add gratuity to DDP portion
-Present cards for payment

We received two in every case. With the exception of one restaurant, the DDP bill had a blank spot for a tip and a note at the bottom with 18% or 20% tip already calculated. My DH gave the server the cards and then received a second set of receipts to sign. The DDP bill then showed the zero total. The DDE bill reflected the DDP tip that my DH had added as well as the DDE purchases and the automatic 18% tip on the DDE portion of the bill.

It's really no different than last year other than adding the gratuity yourself which is I guess what Tricia was saying. But just like past years, we didn't present our keys until we received the bills.

One restaurant added the 18% tip on the DDP portion of the bill onto the DDE bill without consulting us. But we were happy with the food, service and simplicity of billing in that case so all was good.
