Paying to Make ADRs?

Do we have to PAY to make ADRs now? What the... (read it in another thread one that has gotten long enough that I don't want to intrude in with this side bar.)

You do not have to pay just to make most ADR's. You are required to give a credit card in case you you forget to cancel at some restaurants ($10 is charged if you forget). There are also some where you have to pay the total up-front (CRT and others).

complete list of restaurants:

The only meals that have to be fully pre-paid at the time you make the reservation are all meals at Cinderella's Royal Table and the 3 dinner shows (Hoop De Doo, Spirit of Aloha luau and Mickey's Backyard Barbecue.)

When I reserved my candlelight processional dinner package I was temporarily charged $1. If that's what you mean? The woman on the phone told me it varies on what you're reserving :confused3

Thank you I was wondering what the powers that be were smokin up there, and where I could get some. ;)
Do you still have to pay the total up front if you're on the DXDP?

I just wanted to add that if you have a resort reservation with a DDP that includes TS credits, you do not have to pay up front for the above mentioned meals/dinner shows. You do have to link your resort reservation to your ADRs but (if the ADR website is working correctly) you won't have to pay the full amount at the time you book it.

Otherwise, there is no charge to make ADRs but several restaurants now require a cc as a guarantee. If you do not cancel the reservation one day in advance and do not show for the ADR, then you will be charged $10 per person.

Not if you have dining plan booked before you make your ADR's. The CM on the phone will know that once they look at your reservation. I think the online reservations work smoothly as well in regards to this (I have not made ADR's online with dining plan, yet).

If you have the DxDDP or the regular DDP when you make the reservations for CRT or the dinner shows you can link your reservation/dining plan to indicate you want to use your dining credits instead of paying in full.

You will still have to give your credit card information as a guarantee in case you fail to cancel in a timely manner, then fail to show up at the restaurant. For CRT and the dinner shows the penalty is the full price. For the other restaurants - mainly signatures and those that have character meals the penalty is $10 per person.

The credit card guarantee was instituted because too many people were not showing up for their reservations, but also didn't bother to cancel them.

I wanted to clear this up. It's $10 *per head* that is charged to your card if you do not cancel with at least 24 hours notice. So, if it's a party of 4, you will be charged $40 for missing the ADR or cancelling within the 24 hours window, not $10.

In addition, some ADRs for extremely popular events (such as the Luau) require a 48 hours cancellation window, and some will charge you the "full price" of a meal (Dine with an Imagineer, for example). When you book the ADR over the phone, they will inform you of these.

CP also requires a cc when booking ADR. When my TA booked he had to give it for both CP & CRT. Have not been charged as I am on the DDP.

I also made a reservation with CP last night and had to provide cc info. They will not and are not suppose to charge anything unless you cancel within 24 hours of your reserved time or don't show up for your reservation. If you're a "no show" or cancel within 24 hrs then they can charge you $10/person.

I hope this results in a bit more availability for some of the more popular restaurants, closer to the date of our vacation, so we can change our mind if we want.

In my experience, and from anecdotal reports here on the DISboards, it has already increased availability.

This is a very normal thing for any CC-hold type of stuff (even non-Disney). That temporary $1 charge is simply to validate that the card exists and can be charged. For CC's, I think there's some funky way it gets added that makes it not "count" as an actual charge (authorization, pending, something like that). For debit cards, it's similar, but the money is actually held out until the verification goes through.

Just to be very clear. I knew about the $10/pp credit card hold for certain restaurants. I was not aware that you had to pay 100% in advance for hoop-de-do etc.

Does that mean they charge my credit card 100% and I get it all back if I cancel at least 24 hours out? Or they charge my credit card 100% without a refund, all sales final kind of deal?

I believe the cancellation deadline is 48 hours for the shows (I could be wrong), but whatever it is, if you cancel by that deadline, you will be refunded in full.

Just to clarify, the cancellation deadline is close-of-business the day before the reservation, which in almost all cases will be less than 24 hours.

This deadline was a nebulous "one day in advance" for a long time, and they finally clarified what that meant with a direct link on the site.

And to further clarify.... it is a CC hold, not an actual charge. If you don't show up or cancel on time they will then charge your card the $10 per head.

I was very happy when they started taking credit cards for certain DR's. Wish they would do it on more of them.

Disney's website still say's "one day". In the policy section you have to agree to before confirming the reservation it mentions 24 hrs.
