Paying to Make ADRs?

Just to be very clear. I knew about the $10/pp credit card hold for certain restaurants. I was not aware that you had to pay 100% in advance for hoop-de-do etc.

Does that mean they charge my credit card 100% and I get it all back if I cancel at least 24 hours out? Or they charge my credit card 100% without a refund, all sales final kind of deal?

Go to Disney's website, under "where to eat" click on "make a reservation". To the bottom right there is a box with their cancellation policies, etc. You would get a refund, as long as you cancel atleast one day prior.

Disney's website still say's "one day". In the policy section you have to agree to before confirming the reservation it mentions 24 hrs.
What it now says is "For example: if your reservation is on Thursday, you must cancel your reservation no later than Wednesday end of day. " No longer any reference to 24 hours.

And even if there is elsewhere a reference to "24 hours", once they post the less restrictive terms, they're pretty much bound by that, particularly since that's what you get on the link directly from the page from which the reservation was made.

Ok, I see that on there. It's always good to know this stuff in case something does come up and you can't make the reservation time or change your mind.

Originally, the only thing we could get in writing from WDW was close of business *two days* before the reservation - so actually quite a bit more than 24 hours. And all we got was a few anecdotal reports about when it was actually being applied.

So it was good that they clarified it in a way that made it less restrictive, while still opening up some spots that could probably be filled by same-day reservations the next morning, or, for some of the character breakfasts, even allowing spots for walk-ups. (The latter can really make a difference at 1900 Park Fair, where many guests will take it for granted that they can eat in their hotel restaurant.)

I wanted to clear this up. It's $10 *per head* that is charged to your card if you do not cancel with at least 24 hours notice. So, if it's a party of 4, you will be charged $40 for missing the ADR or cancelling within the 24 hours window, not $10.

In addition, some ADRs for extremely popular events (such as the Luau) require a 48 hours cancellation window, and some will charge you the "full price" of a meal (Dine with an Imagineer, for example). When you book the ADR over the phone, they will inform you of these.

Sorry I forgot to put the $10 per person thing in there, thought I did. Great thing around here is that someone always catches and corrects. :thumbsup2

I too was happy they instituted this, as prior to to that I used lurk here, and on other forums, seeing some users who had way more time to organise than others happily booking 2 or 3 simultaneous places with no intention or even ability to get to them all. What is really bad, as I found out the first time in 2007, is that the travel agents in England here do not really mention how horrific it can be to get into some Disney restaurants without reservations. Admittedly the Disney guides they send out here now do make it very clear that you are best booking, but the travel agents themselves still seem oblivious to it, even with the DDP promotions!

Make sure you check the policies of your ADR. For Fantasmic and Candlelight processional dinning, it is two days cancelation policy not one. Also, for these dinning packages they will charge you for a full meal.

The dinner shows (Hoop De doo, Luau and mickey bbq) and CRT have a one day cancelation policy but will also charge you for the full meal.
