Paying Room Charges with Someone Else's Credit Card

So DS and I arrive at POFQ for 12 nights at the end of this month. We each have our own room and will pay our own expenses. We decided to upgrade to AP’s and I’ll be purchasing a TIW card. This means that any meals where I get the TIW discount will need to be charged to my room. Would he and I be able to go down to the front desk at some point during our trip and make a payment on my room account with his credit card? Normally we’d settle up after the trip, but he has a $300 travel credit on his Chase Sapphire Reserve card that he wanted to use towards his meals. The only way Chase will consider dining as an eligible travel expense is if it gets charged to the room. I can’t think why Disney would care where the money comes from, but there might be something I’m not thinking of. Thanks!

What I would recommend is doing something like this...
Either just put everything on his card
OR
Charge $300+ to your room
Go down and use his card
Finish the rest of the trip on your card and have him settle the difference after.

I wouldn't recommend trying to go multi times based on my experience and my experience only.
I used a mix of credit card and gift cards but it was more work and a pain then I feel it should have been

Thanks. I think that's what we'll do. We do have enough gift cards to pay for the rest of our charges but he wanted to use up that travel credit first.

Nope no problem, Disney, like any business likes to get money.

It is easy to stop by the Front Desk and use any combination of credit/debit/gift card/check/cash to apply to outstanding charges on your resort account.

Just a reminder that you can no longer have a negative balance at the resort. In your example, there needs to be at least $300 in pending charges outstanding on your room to apply his payment against.

On our last trip, we had 4 adults in one room, we would get a print out of the charges And each person would pay their amount, with cash, gc or credit card. It is very easy and has never been a problem in my 6 + girls trips

This is more confusing then it needs to be and the solution is really simple. There is no requirement for the TiW card holder to pay the bill. Just get the discount and let him pay and it's all done and over. I'm also a TiW card holder and have done this many times and recently.

Annual pass discounts you will probably be told a different person can't pay but this is TiW, not AP.

Just one more little built of trivia. I just returned with my friend and she held a TIW card, so we used it at dinner. The first night we charged dinner and then cocktails after to the room, but my card was the card on file. No problem! They just added her card to pay her portion of the bill.

WHen we travel as a family we just always put my card on file on the rooms, but last year I went with many DDIL and a friend. Our friend added her card at checkin and linked it to her band. AS has been pointed out upthread, Disney likes to make it easy to pay any bill that you have made onsite! LOL!

This is incorrect information, according to the rules of participation in the Tables in Wonderland program

It's been three years since we've had TIW, but a couple of servers made a point of telling me that the member had to pay. To make things a little more complicated, we're both starting the trip with a $265 balance on our room accounts due to AP discount applied after we paid in full. Plus I also have a $300 Chase travel credit to use. We want to use up all those credits first and then we'll switch to paying off our room charges with Disney gift cards

We each have to upgrade our park hoppers to AP's and buy the TIW card the day we arrive but I didn't think those could be charged to the room. If so that would go along way towards using up those credits.

We talked about it last night and another option might be for him to fund my DVA with his Chase card for the $300 which codes as travel and counts towards his travel credit. I have an extra $300 in Disney gift cards that I can give him to use this trip in exchange. I can use the funds in the DVA on our next trip. Our goal this trip is to pay as little as possible out of pocket by using points, miles, discounts, coupons, credits, etc. Right now we're averaging a 70% discount on every component of the trip.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

When I bought my TIW card last February, I charged it back to the room without an issue. I assume you can do the same with upgrading the park hoppers to APs.

It shouldn't be a problem paying the bill with DS' card to get the credit applied. I would just make sure he is there to have them run it. The front desk may not accept the card if it says Joe Smith and you're clearly Joan Smith. As others have said, just make sure you've charged enough to the room to make sure that the credit you have has been used up and that he can cover the $300 easily. Even going down a night or two before you leave and sorting it all out should be fine.

I've never been stopped and it was obvious it wasn't me...

In this case another solution might be worth the cost. $50 more will get you a second card, since it's DS that needs to pay, they would have their own TiW card and they can just pay the bill.

I'm sure you have done this. But it is against the clearly stated rules. Your saying it can be done sets an inaccurate expectation for the readers.
I am pretty sure that the second card is a spouse card only.

Sounds like there wouldn't be any issue with him making a payment with his credit card towards my room charge balance so that seems to be the easiest way to handle this. I'm definitely a rule follower and a worrier so attempting to use his magic band to pay for meals would add a level of stress that I'd want to avoid on vacation. Handing his credit card to the server wouldn't work since we need the charges to go on the room account to use up our credits and have it count as travel.

I completely agree, having never experienced a problem or been told no I had no clue so nobody should plan for it.

I got it for my daughter, no tricks or anything I just asked for it saying "this is my daughter, we don't always travel or stick together when here, can we get a second card she can use". The only mention on the website I've seen is just saying if a spouse or partner has the secondary card and present you can get discounts for up to 20 people including card holders.

I think in this case, it's worth asking about the secondary card they might say no, but they might say yes.
