Paying OOP question

Ok this maybe a stupid question but here it goes. We have the QSDP this time for a short trip in June, if we want to pay OOP for extra sides to go with our lunches etc. but want to use our magic band to pay (with the CC attached to it) do we just tell the cashier? I don't want to suck up snack credits for extra sides if I don't have too. This is our first time using magic bands so i am not 100% how it all works now. TIA
