Paying OOP on DDP-Why?

I don't know why you think it's strange that people OOP for some meals. :confused3 The current DDP does not cover 3 meals a day. So, what if you want to *shockingly* eat a Character breakfast, a CS lunch, and a TS dinner all in one day? I guess you are going to be paying for that character breakfast OOP.

I don't think it is usually the same people complaining about too much food *and* paying OOP.

This is exactly what I'd thought-that it was the same people. Now I know that it isn't and I understand alot better. Thanks everyone!

I usually pay OOP for one of the cheaper meals and save the extra dining credit for a 2 TS place. The Yachtsmans Steakhouse is a favorite of mine!

I never have extra snack credits but I do end up with extra CS credits sometimes. I am not a fan of the CS food at most places so my DD gets her chicken fingers and I will have a piece of fruit or something like that.

The last day if I have any left over I usually treat a stranger to a meal.

We pay OOP for a character breakfast if we are having a dinner ts later that day. We pay OOP for Cinderellas royal table, not worth 2Ts to us. To each their own.

We will definitely be paying OOP for the Afternoon Tea at the GF this trip. It's not available on the plan, so paying OOP is the only way to go.

We are paying OOP because we are eating at crystal palace on our departure day. We have half the day at the park and its my middle son's 10th birthday so I thought it would be nice to have a sit down breakfast to celebrate. So we will be short one evening on TS meals, so I am paying OOP for 50's prime time café..

We are eating at Plaza Restaurant (because we never have and the menu looks good so we wanted to try it), but even though it is a TS restaurant, it has CS-type food at CS prices. They won't take a CS credit for the meal so we are paying OOP and using the DDE to get 20% off, and saving the TS credit for a more expensive restaurant. The amount of food works out OK since our flight is at 7 pm to go home so we can use credits the last day for a nice good-bye lunch at Garden Grill :)

We also wanted to eat at Fulton's Crab House but they don't do the dining plan so that will be OOP with a 10% AP holder discount. These ADRs are on two different trips.

I don't see how anyone has any credits left! We were there for 6 days (5 days of DDP) and had used them all on Day 5, Day 6 was completely OOP. We never ate breakfast, instead we ate lunch at 11, and our dinners were at 7 or later so on somedays we even bought an extra CS OOP and split it. We also don't see snack credits such as ice cream as things that are expected to hold us over for hours at a time. Maybe we just like to eat.... I'm remembering several snacks we paid OOP for also.

:rotfl2: Same here--my dh used one CS credit nearly every morning for a croissant sandwich and bottle of OJ. It wasn't the most economical use of a credit, but it kept him happy and moving until lunchtime. So I would never criticize anyone's use of credits as being "not financially sound enough." Even without any $$ savings, the DDP is still a terrific stress-saver.

That is exactly why we do it!! I don't worry about all the "bang for your buck" talk. If I decide to use a snack credit on something that is less than 3.99, that is ok, I didn't have to pull that $2-3 out of my wallet! I would be more stressed out if I had to reach for my wallet everytime I ate anything in WDW at those prices. With the DDP, I don't worry about it and my family eats what they want without me counting every uneaten fry and wishing we would have shared to save money.
I do realize we paid money for the DDP (never had free), but it was paid for so long ago that it makes my meals seem free!

So by my math using a TS credit for a buffet is the about the same as using 2 for Narcoossee's.

The catch being that you don't get to eat Narcoosee's food. Buffets are great for quantity, but sometimes I'm going to opt for quality instead. There isn't a buffet on the property than can touch the quality of Narcoosee's food with a barge pole.

I'm doing two signature dinners, so I have to pay for one of my other dinners OOP. (One night I didn't make an ADR, since I'll be going to Party for the Senses, so I don't need to pay OOP for a second dinner.) I also am paying OOP for a TS breakfast, since that isn't a good use of a credit, and I love Crystal Palace.
