Paying for package with Disney Gift Cards?

So, what happens if you pay for your trip using gift cards and you must cancel the trip? How do you get that money back, especially, if you can no longer go? I wouldn't want it to go back on gift cards.

It goes back on the gift cards.

You might be able to have them issue a check, but I can't verify that is possible.

I canceled a trip last December and my gift card was refunded in 3 days. When I did, the cm told me that is what would happen, she didn't give me any options, she said "Your deposit will be refunded to your original payment source." or some such wording.

it depends on the store by my mom in .20 but by us still .10.. i love fuel points

Just be forewarned that some places in WDW cannot process more than 2-3 cards in one transaction -I found this out last year when purchasing convention tickets online - I could only enter ONE gift card and ONE credit card. Same thing this year at Guest Services at MK when buying an AP - I had 3 gift cards & wanted to put the balance on my CC - they could only accept 3 cards - had to use the 2 highest GCs & then put the balance on my CC.

Sounds like from the above poster they can process numerous cards at the resorts. Or if you're paying your balance online jsut do it in several transactions if you have to!

Just bought mine yesterday at Giant Eagle (Irwin). They are now 20 cents off for every $50 spent. I believe it's an Easter special. I now have over $13 off per gallon. Will get 3 free fill-ups in the van. That's worth about $250 dollars to us.

I have a Disney Visa card with a $0 balance. DH and I are not going back to WDW until 2014. But the silver lining to this is it gives us plenty of time to save! Almost every week DH has to buy several hundred dollars worth of stuff for work that he gets reimbursed for. I was thinking we should put all these work purchases on the Disney Visa so we can get the points. After 2-3 years we should accumulate quite a few points this way. Here are my questions:

1. What's the conversion rate? His purchases are mostly at Staples so....
$1000 spent at Staples = how many Disney Dollars that I can use to pay for our dining plan?

2. How does one transfer the points to Disney Dollars/gift cards that can be used to pay for AP's, dining plans and hotel reservations? (I've been reading these posts and it seems complicated.)

3. Some one mentioned a limit to the number of gift cards one can use in a transaction to purchase AP's (we also have single days tickets to upgrade). This makes me thing it would behoove us to get the largest denomination of gift card we can. Is this the correct strategy?

Hi Maple Girl!

You earn 1 Disney Reward Dollar for every $100 put on the card. So 10 Disney Reward Dollars for every $1000.

The points will accrue in your VISA account & then when you're ready, you call them to transfer them to a Disney VISA Rewards Card (or you can request one in WDW). Then your points are like cash on a plastic card to use just like a credit card at WDW. Once you have that inital card you can transfer points onto it online, you don't need to call for that. There's no max of how many points you can transfer to that card, so no worries on having several of them to use. Keep transferring to the same Rewards card - HOWEVER, the points do expire once put on your card - they expire at the end of the year following the current year - so if you transferred 100 points today, they would expire December 31, 2012. So don't just randomly transfer them unless you plan to use them by then.

I've used gift cards to pay for the actual package before (at the 45 day mark) but I'm wondering if I can also use them to pay for any expenses we incur while on our trip - for example can we just charge everything (meals, souvenir purchases) to our room and then use the gift cards to pay the balance when we check out - or apply the gift cards to our account at check in so we'd have a credit balance and then any purchases would be deducted?

We can get gift cards through school and get a kick back on our tuition but want to make sure I can use them this way also.

Yes you can. We did this a couple of trips ago and if it exceeds your gift cards than they charge the remaining to your credit card. This is our plan this trip as well.
