Paying for dinner with a gift card...

We received a $25 American Express gift card and wondered if it could be used toward dinner at Boma? I called Disney dining and the CM said that while they do accept Amex cc's, she wasn't sure about a gift card. Anyone try to do this?

The tricky part about those AmEx/Visa, etc. gift cards is that if whatever you're buying is more than the value of the gift card, it gets complicated. The balance needs to be paid first with another method of payment, then leaving the amount owed exactly the value of the gift card. Some retailers know exactly how this works, and others don't have a clue.

My advice is to use your AmEx gift card to buy a $25 Disney gift card. That way the amounts are equal, therefore eliminating the potentially difficult situation described above, and the money still goes towards your dinner.

Wow great idea, I hadn't thought of that. So the Disney gift card can be simply applied to the dinner bill and we use another means for the balance, right?

You've got it! I've gotten several prepaid gift cards and after a couple of bad experiences trying to buy a more expensive item, I now use them to buy gift cards - no hassle!

Absolutely!
Even when we are on the dining plan, free or not, we use Disney Gift Cards to pay for any "extras"...(i.e. appetizers not covered or even for tips to waitfolk).

No coming home to credit card balances...(unless they were already in place)

that's a great idea...I have a $100 visa gift card...was going to use it for gas, but maybe i will use my cash for gas, instead of at Disney and get a $100 gift card and use it for food while I am there. I was wondering how it would work if there was a little bit of money leftover. Thanks for that idea!!

One last question, can I get a gift card in the gift shop at WL?

I believe the resort gift shops sell Disney gift cards but I'm not positive. Do any stores near you sell them? I've seen them at Shop n Shop, Walgreens, Target, and Sam's Club.
