I am trying to book a couple of days car hire for my next trip. The best price I have found is with Budget, but when I go through to confirm it, I only have the option of paying locally.

It says the price you will pay locally is £xx.xx but I dont undertand how they can charge this exact amount. Will I get to the airport and they charge me in $ and it will work out more than the I agreed to when I booked due to the exchange rate.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for the help.

I would never book a car locally as the prices they quote don't include all the necessary insurances etc becasue Americans are normally covered for these things via other means. I'd advise you to book with a UK company who includes everything you need in one price. The US price might 'look' cheaper but you end up getting stung for all the extras once you get there.

Have you tried USRENTACAR - you can get a compact car for about £25 a day including everything you need. There are other companies based in the UK to try to like Yescarhire.

Hope that helps:thumbsup2

Thanks for the help. Had looked at these sites but they where a lot more. I got the quote from travel supermarket and have looked at all the insurances and everything is there. Next option was thrifty but that is off site

If there is a big difference in price it usually means your lower price is for rental only without insurances, paid locally this can be very expensive. Sites shown above and prepaid in UK include everything you need.
What dates you want? type of car? will have a look around

I've been comparing Budget (the UK site, not the US one!) and US Rent A Car recently (there's a thread somewhere), and at the moment the smaller, compact cars are actually coming up as cheaper than US Rent A Car, but have the same insurance. Once you get past intermediate in size, the US Rent A Car because cheaper again, in some instances becoming half the price of Budget direct!

We booked through budget direct last year and yes they do only offer to pay locally. It included all the insurances and when we got there they just processed it and we paid the price in £ sterling the amount that was agreed on the web. It was no different to paying upfront online to paying it locally.

However, thanks to wayneg's advice on usrentacar - we cancelled this years booking direct with budget and booked through them as it was £104 cheaper and we got a free upgrade (Thanks Wayneg :thumbsup2)

Thank you VERY much everyone. I have gone ahead and booked with budget - I called them and they confirmed that I would not require any further insurances and that I will only pay the price I have confirmed at not a penny more.

Fingers crossed it is all perfect when I arrive at the Orlando.

Yep you will be fine i booked with Budget.com online never had any problems and paid for my car hire when i returned the car in Orlando we had a mid size 4 door pontiac g6 automatic for 10 days and it only cost us about £190 total inc all insurances etc.... :thumbsup2

I did have one of our booking's direct with Budget (cancelled as Hertz were cheaper) and I was led to believe the rate is guaranteed and they just charged the equivalent in dollars at the airport. Budget's rates include all the necessary insurance, as do Hertz's if anyone was wondering :) One of our bookings with usrentacar (Orlando part of our trip) was the cheapest I could find with all the necessary insurance but for the NY/MA part (one way rental) it came out much higher, plus they charge the one-way fee locally and it's subject to change. With Hertz and Budget direct they do so in advance and the rate is guaranteed which is one less thing to worry about!
