Just bought a direct AKV contract, paying in cash. But I’m trying to put all the payment thru credit cards to maximize cash back reward points. My Disney Chase card has a $10k limit, does anyone know if I can pay this off now and immediately put another $10k on it to get more points?

My guide gave me 30 days to close so I could work out a way to pay and maximize my cash back points.

You can pay it off right away but they also can bill you at intervals too. I didn't do it but I know some others got charged at like 30, 60, then 90 days or something like that to maximize the interest free period. But I guess that's not your goal.

I’ve also heard of people getting a credit line increase from Chase when they call and say they are making a large purchase, so try that.

This is what we did, although not because of the limit on the card. DVC couldn’t actually do a single transaction of over $10k. But we put $10k on, paid it off immediately, and then had them do another one a week later.

Not sure what Chase card you have but we were able to pay for our add on with our Chase Freedom card with plans to pay it off immediately. When I went in to our Chase account, we had an offer for 18 months SAC because it fell under the travel category. After we accepted the offer, it calculated a monthly payment for 18 months with no prepayment penalty. I applied the cash back on points right back to that account.

Not sure if you are responding to me or the OP, but we don’t like having any balance on our cards regardless of whether it is interest free or not.

Yes, you can pay it off now and charge another $10k on it.

We put all of our contracts on our credit card for rewards. There were two that were past my credit card limit (was paying cash). I wanted a day or two for the charge to be posted - paid it and had DVC apply the balance. ( we don't carry a balance - I pay on-line at least once a week. I never wait for my bill)

Good luck!

Your guide can schedule payments in increments over 90 days, so you can absolutely make multiple CC payments and pay off as you go along. If you have the Disney Visa, you also get 6 months interest free! But I’d personally spread out the payments rather than do it all at once/within a few days to let my cash earn interest for as long as possible.

Thanks everyone for the replies. We got slammed by this hurricane so just catching up.

I guess DVC still counts as a “purchase” and qualifies for points on most cards? Not sure how to find out

I’m purchasing today and have been trying to figure out which card to use too.

from what I read DVC comes up as “travel” for the merchant code BUT does not qualify for Costco’s 3% category. So I think we are going to go with Chase Sapphire Preferred which gives 2 points per dollar on travel with no limit. Side note: preferred has a 100,000 point bonus right now - easy way to take $1,000 off the top of your purchase.

Thanks! I was just looking at that one today also. We were also looking at amex platinum because it has 100k points, but a $695 fee. Not sure if use the travel benefits enough for that one.

Let me know how Chase Sapphire Preferred works out for you. I still have to pay the remainder of mine because we got hit my Hurricane Ida last week and I’m just getting back to it.

The purchase on the chase sapphire preferred came up as travel and I received double points! With the 1,000 cash bonus I think that’s a winner. Plus I like having chase ultimate reward points.

I do also have, and love, the amex platinum. It’s expensive but amex gives you a lot of opportunities to cover your cost. Only problem is that you have to WORK for it. Amex doesn’t make anything easy. So much strategy goes into the airline fee credit and the Uber credits. But, I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it though solely for their airport lounge access. If you have a centurion lounge in your airport and fly often it is worth it. Also I never thought I would use the fine hotels and resorts perk but you can find deals on there.

As far as DVC goes I’ll be putting it on the sapphire.

I hope you guys are doing well (or as well as can be expected) after Ida and now Nicholas!

Thank you, we made out ok. The bayou behind our house raised 3ft (didn’t get in though) and no power for 5 days, but no damage!

In other news we are set to do the sapphire preferred buy. My wife applies first, got approved, sent me a referral link (she gets $250) and then I applied. So we should get 200,000 points there.
