Pay cash or use points?

We just closed on a DVC resale at OKW last week. We are so excited and are looking forward to our first OKW vacation in June!!! Next week we are closing on a 130 point VB package. We plan to use these points to take a cruise every couple of years. However, when looking at the number of points it takes to book a cruise, it seems like it would be much more economical to rent your points at $10 per point and just pay cash for the cruise. I would only have to sell 250 points to get enough cash to pay for the cruise (including taxes and fees) but would have to use 322 points to book the cruise through DVC.

Am I missing anything here? Also, it is sound reasonable to do this, is it possible to rent all of my year 2000 VB points as well as borrow my 2001 points and rent those? Is it okay to rent to other DVC members?

I appreciate any information you could give me!
Thanks!!!

The only drawback to going with the rent method is the additional risk associated with it. If you rent to someone and then plan/pay for your cruise trip, if the person you rented to then needs to back out for some reason, you're left scrambling to find another rentor.
