Pay Cash Or Points On The Weekend?

I was planning a studio weekend stay at BCV this summer (32 or 29 points/night depending on when we go). The MS rep told me the cash price for the room was $236 (@262 incl tax). Considering the cash value of my points (trade or rent) shouldn't we be paying cash everytime for weekends?
Do members do this? Am I missing something here?
Thanks:confused3

Some members do pay cash for the weekend nights - either to stretch their points or experience one of the non-DVC resorts. Others pay points for the weekends. It's up to you - personal preference.

Some members feel they have put out enough money for DVC, they don't want to pay anymore. I like the boardwalk view at BWV and that's not available on cash. I have paid cash for a weekend night at OKW in a 1 bedroom, it was around $320 incl tax and saved 48 points (May).

We paid cash last trip for the weekend nights. Our trip this year we're going to stay the weekend at a non-DVC resort and then move over on sunday. If the moving proves to be too much of a hassle I guess we'll just go back to paying cash til we save enough for an add-on.

I always figure if I rented the points, I'd pay about $10/point. (It can vary up to $14 or sometimes less if you're getting must-use points.) Then I figure out what the cash rate (with member discount) is and compare.

If the rate makes more sense than a point rental, I'd pay cash. I could conceivably rent my points and end up on the plus side.

It all comes down to what bothers you more: using up your points, using up your cash, or moving somewhere else (or shortening your stay).

We're in the crowd that figures that we've already invested enough for the long term benefit and usually do not pay cash for the weekends....

Usually, if we can end the trip on a Friday morning, then great... We avoid getting the points hit.. If not, then sometimes will either switch resorts or go into a Studio...

It really all depends on which resort we are at, and when our vacation starts... For instance, an extreme case would be.. I probabily would not stay a HHI 1BR over a weekend, but wouldn't mind it during the offseason..

We use the AP discount on weekends. Like staying at the other resorts.

when we can afford it, we always switch from points to cash for the weekends. Your points go twice as far that way....but as someone else pointed out, this is a very personal decision.

We bought enough points to stay weekends while we are there. Maybe someday when we can take more than 1 trip a year we will try to stretch the budget and get all we can out of our points. We like to have everything go as easy as possible and we would never think of leaving to go to another resort to save on weekend points.

What is the AP discount? I must have missed that!?!?! Thanks.

Disney put outs codes for AP discounts, can be up to 40% off rack rates. THey have codes out now lasting until March 30th.

I've had diiferent CRO reps tell me this week the AP discounts is 10%. Another said 40%. How is this determined?

Not sure who determines what the AP rates are but they will differ according to the resort level. If you go to the home page of the Dis, it usually tells you what rates are currently available. I have gotten 40% off of the deluxe rack rate in the past.

No - DVC members can get a discount on DVC resorts only and that is if there is availability for the discount. It's not always available.

Cash reservations for the DVC resorts (with the DVC member discount)are booked through MS.
