Help - I have been looking at getting a pay as you go cell phone for myself to have in emergencies etc... I got rid of my other one because $100 a month was just too much... and I dont want to deal with it... I looked at walmart and I am just wanting to see if anyone has any advice on which way to go... HELP :confused3

I have Virgin pay as you go, I put $10 on every month and what I don't use rolls over.
Never had a problem with it.
I got mine in walmart.

I have Virgin Mobile as well as do a number of people I know (wife, neighbor, friends, etc...). I've used it for probably 6-7 years now.

One suggestion....The general plan is you put in ("top-up") $20 every 90 days. Sign up with the auto-top-up and you only have to do $15 every 90 days. They charge the $15 every 90 days without you having to worry about it.

I also have Virgin mobile as does DH - I have the plan where I put $20.00 every 3 months (calls are .20/minute) - I don't use mine that much at all.

DH has an actual plan that I pay $34.00/month and gives him unlimited texts and 200 minutes a month - he uses his a lot so this plan works for him.

I am kinda dumb about them - do they charge like a CC or something??? I always see these min cards you can buy??? what is that

I know this is probably a stupid question but its not clearly stated on Virgin's site and I'm trying to figure out the best plan for my dd.
If you use the top up option that you do, instead of the monthly minute packs, do your minutes roll over? I am assuming that they do like my dd's tracfone does, but the only place I can find anything mentioned about roll over is under the minute pack option.

Depends on how much you talk.

I went with straight talk its $30 for 1000 min and 1000 text and includes some internet or $45 a month for Unlimited everything.

They use the Verizon network so you get good coverage and you can get it from Wal mart or online.
Now the tech support some have had issues with guess I got lucky I bought my phone brought it home singed up online and ask for my number to be moved from ATT to Straight talk and within 10 min I was up using my old number on the new phone.

I too have Virgin Mobile and have no problem with them except that in the area that we travel to in the summer I have spotty coverage. If they could get that fixed they would be perfect.

Those cards you buy to add minutes to your phone. You don't need a credit card with pay as you go phones. Just buy a card and add on the minutes.

I love the fact that it only costs me $20 every 3 months. I am glad I am not tied to any plans or monthly fees.

I would recommend tracfone, my DH and I have been using tracfone for quite a while and now the kids are using it too although according to DD12 it is not cool:confused

You buy cards with the amount of minutes that you want. I just bought DH a60 minute card for $19.99 and activates the phone for 90 days.

His phone has double minutes for life of the phone and I got a code off of the internet so he got a total of 180 minutes for three months for 19.99. DH doesn't use his phone very much so those 180 minutes will last him for a year. My phone I usually buy more minutes, but it still isn't too bad. Let me know if you have any more questions
