We're headed down to Savannah and wanted to try out Paula's restaurant and I understand it's pretty difficult to get in.

Is it worth going over there to put my reservation in at 9am?

We are heading there in a few weeks and I want to know also. I really want to go, just to say I have been there! And it will drive my mom nuts- nah, nah, boo, boo! :rotfl2: Someone recommended another restaurant but it is only open on the week but not on the weekend when we will be there.

When are you going?

The Lady and Sons doesn't usually take reservations.

They might on special occasions.

We're going the end of April and my mom will also be soooo jealous. She is the cook in our family, not me.

I just want to go to say I've been there as well. I would love it if her family was there. I guess her sons are there occasionally.

Well I stood in line for 3 hours to get my name on the list for dinner. If you are going for lunch and thinking 9am I would say you have to get there way earlier to get in. People start lining up about 3 hours before they take names.

Now we loved the food for what it was- super bad for you good old fried stuff. Even the green beans tasted like they were sauted in lard! but boy did they taste good. And that butter cake- mmmm. But I didn't eat the entire next day cause I was just so darn full.

I did it once and I think that is enough. I'm glad we went. The kids loved it. It was an experience. I met some great people. (I even have an *** story out of our meal that was so embarrassingly funny)

I see that they now are doing takeout. If I ever head back I think I would go that route. There are other GREAT restaurants in the area. We just have never been there long enough to explore them- there is one down the road from Lady and Son's that is supposed to have better fried chicken according to the locals but I can't for the life of me remember the name.

If you go ENJOY! And get the Butter Cake for dessert! (ours was bananammmm) We did the buffet- the chicken was delicious and we had the best pepper steak I have ever tasted! And I have to say I liked those green beans that I am pretty sure were from a can?

We only have one day, so I'm not sure we'll spend that time waiting in line to eat. I did not realize they had take-out. Perhaps we will do that and eat it on the way down to Orlando.

Some of the stuff on the menu is making me very hungry though, I will say that.

We have gone twice. Both times we had to get there in the morning, I think around 9:30 and put our name on the list. The line to get on the list was about 30 minutes. Once our name was on the list they gave us a return time to come back. I think our return time was around 1:10 and we got seated around 1:30.

I'm pretty sure on her website she lists what time they have someone outside to put your name on the list and the best time to arrive.

I really enjoy going although it is a little hectic and time consuming. The buffet is really good and it's fun to try all of the food that she is so famous for.

Have fun!

We only have one day also, well maybe one and a half. Haven't decided yet. If it only takes about 30 minutes to stand in line and get on the list then that would be worth it. I have no problem getting in line around 9ish--the kids will play Game boy to pass the time. And then we can sightsee and come back for our assigned time. Works for me! I just want to be able to say I have been there ( and call my mom and say "guess what I am eating right now. . . :teeth: )

I say you should go for it for sure! The key is getting there early enough. I just checked the website and it says:

Monday through Saturday our host begins to take names for lunch at 9:30 am, you must appear in person to make reservations. But don't fret, if y'all can't get in for lunch, put your name on the list for dinner and join us then! Y'all can spend the day shopping downtown, rest up and then join us for a wonderfully delicious meal. Sunday, as always, is buffet only from 11am until 5 pm. Once again, the host will begin taking names at 9:30 am.

I went there in mid-November 2007. I believe I was told to be there at 2:00 p.m. to put my name on the list for dinner that evening. I did so and managed to put my name in for 5:30 p.m. I think there were slots open for later in the evening but my friend and I wanted an early seating.

I had the buffet, it was very good. I believe my friend ordered some type of fish off the menu (I might have had a bite, but fish is not my favorite). I think we were both too stuffed to have dessert. Our waiter was very attentive.

She has a small gift shop next to the Lady & Sons, don't forget to check it out! All of her recipe books in the shop contain her autograph.

Have fun! I loved Savannah, I wish I had more time to spend there!

Bummer we won't be there at the same time. We are going the beginning of April on our way to Orlando.

My girls love the Food Network and Paula Deen and her boys so they will willingly stand in line to get in. I just didn't want to have to be in line from 9:30 until we get in like at 11 or 12 or even 1! That would have been to much. We will probably try to go for the Sunday buffet and then head on down to Orlando.

When we were in Savannah, we considered Lady and Sons, and ended up at Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room on the recommendation of a volunteer at the visitors' center. It was the best meal. Mmmmmm.....I drool thinking about it.

That is the one that isn't open on the weekends. :( It is only open M-F.

I hope ya'll enjoy it, the line is usually wrapped around the building, sometimes they even have ice buckets of bottle water outside for people standing in line! I haven't eaten there in years (yes, the green beans are from a can, or at least they were last time I was there, lol), especially since the lines began a few years back. Paula lives right down the street from me (when she's here, which is not often anymore). She can be seen around town occasionally, and her t.v. show has actually ordered things from the bakery where I work for display while they're filming. I hope you all have fun while you're here!

We're driving down from MA and LOVE it. Last trip we stopped in NC but got lost so we weren't able to do our day of sight seeing, so we're really looking forward to it. This year DH has the Garmin.

I can't wait to see Savannah. It was either that or Charleston but Savannah won this time. DH is so excited!

Charleston is next on the list. Originally we were supposed to leave VA Sat morning and get into Savannah in the evening and just look around a bit, stay the night, try to eat at Lady and Sons on Sunday and head to Orlando but I am really leaning toward leaving town as soon as the girls are out of school at 1 on Friday and doing an extra night so we have all day Saturday to spend there. I would probably still just try to do Lady and Sons on Sunday but we'll see.

And I probably wouldn't even be daring to do this by myself if I didn't have my Garmin also (we call her Agnes)!!! :lmao: I already have downloaded the WDW maps from Mousesavers into it and am set to go!!!

Sure! Come by and visit! The name of the bakery is Baker's Pride Bakery and it's on Derenne Ave. which is actually on the way downtown if you get off of I-95 at Hwy. 204. I'm usually there from about 7am to 3pm (depending on the day).

When we went we had the hotel consierge (sp?) call and when we got there we still had to wait but it was only like 30 min... We gave the consierg a tip so don't know if that helped us or not? But I would check with your hotel.

Good Luck.. we also ate at Mrs. Wilkes and it was a much longer wait..
we ordered off the menu at Lady & sons instead of the buffet and it was great!
