Paula Deen's Restaurant in Savannah

Lady and Sons is NOT to be missed. I took my mom there last February for her birthday and the food can not be compared to anyone else's. We ended up eating there Saturday night and Sunday for lunch. It was easier getting in for lunch on Sunday, if you arrive before the church crowds let out.

If you are going to stay overnight, I would like to recommend the River Street Inn, it is a beautiful hotel that is in an old Cotton Mill and it overlooks the Savannah River. With a AAA rate we paid $159/night and had 2 queen beds and 4 star service. There are all kinds of shops next to it and behind it.

we are making a stop in Savannah on our way to Disney tomorrow!!! I have been reading and trying to decide what to see and where to eat.

What I did find out was if you take the Paula Deen tour at $40 a person, you get a ticket that allows you to eat in the resturant without the wait! I am still trying to decide if the $40 is worth it!

I don't recommend her brother's place at all. We were there in Nov. '06. The food was 'eh' as well as the service. The interior decor was lacking also. We were seated near the windows (it was night time) but the deck was lit and we could see cats and a few raccoons starting to congregate at the back door...together. It was the most bizarre thing. As we left out the front there was another raccoon. I gave it a couple of pieces of my (greasy/soggy) leftovers (shouldn't have done that but I did). Before it scuttled underneath the little walkway bridge to partake of it's tidbit, it scared the pants off a young woman that had been oblivious to it being there. Talk about a safety concern. Clearly the staff are feeding all of these critters at closing. Can't say if it's still like this. We aren't locals.

You can't beat it! :thumbsup2 Close enough to walk to so many things, too.

Do you have a link to the Paula Deen tour?

Hmmm...$56? It looks fun, but I may take my chances getting up at the crack of dawn to get in line.

Sounds like people really like the place and have a good time. My husband was looking at that pulled pork sandwich. Funny, he's picking out what he's going to eat 2 months from now.

We plan what we are going to eat at WDW 6 months in advance, 2 months in advance for Savannah seems about right at this point! :rotfl:

Going to check out that link, but being in line isn't seeing so bad.;)

I'd stand in line for hours if it meant I got to meet Paula and her sons! Especially Bobby!!

Oh yeah, Bubba's suuuuuckks! Cooking obviously didn't run in her family.;) I love Paula and her hunky sons, but I would warn anyone away from Bubba's seafood place...ick.

I have lived in Savannah for almost three years, still have no desire to go to Lady and Sons. I totally admire Paula Deen for what she has done with her life and her success. I just don't want to spend 5 hours preparing for and finally eating a lunch that costs almost $20...Not the best use of your time in a beautiful city like Savannah..

Her brother Bubba has a seafood restaurant called Bubba's Oyster House on Whitemarsh Island. I haven't been there either (I don't get out much) but I am sure it would be a lot easier to get into...although it ain't Paula's place..

I hope you have a wonderful visit to Savannah..all of her

ETA, I just read the above post, so that says what Bubba's is like. not that it matters, but there are feral cats ALL over the islands..yes, someone is feeding them. There is a Merle Norman on Wilimington Island that has several bowls of food set out, and a bunch of kitty beds to make them comfy...I guess the raccoons are along for the ride.LOL

I took the tour in 2006 and loved it. We got a card with a special number that allowed us to "skip the line" to her restaurant but didn't have time to go the next day. We went back in Apri 2007 and LOVED it!! :cool1:

Uncle Bubba's food was alright but we met Uncle Bubba and he was worth the trip!! He was a HOOT!!!

We tried to get a reservation for Thanksgiving but no such luck. It was sold out in MARCH!!! We ended up going to the Pink House which I HIGHLY recommend. Unbelievable food!! :thumbsup2

That's so funny, lol. Uncle Bubba's is VERY close to my house, and we've only eaten there once, and that's because a friend of mine worked there. It was not good.
It really surprises me that folks think that if they go to Lady and Sons that Paula and the boys will be there to greet them, they are very rarely there anymore, but the ladies in the kitchen have been with her for years, so I'm sure they know the recipes, lol.
There are so many other great restaurants downtown, if you don't want to wait (or don't have time) there is an abundance of choices and most of them are wonderful. We have a lot of local restaurants in the historic district and also down on River St. as well, so if the lines at Paula's are too long, you may be pleasantly surprised, as Robin was with the Pink House.
I leave for WDW this morning, sorry I'll miss ya'll as you come through!

I just wanted to add that if you are looking for somewhere cheap and good with a fun atmosphere. We ate at Vinny Van go go's for Pizza and it was soo good! We sat out on the patio and people watched.

The link says you get lunch at Uncle Bubba's, nothing about eating at Lady and Sons. Back in line!

I was reading somewhere, that while you don't eat a Paulas, you get a ticket that allows you to skip the line at the resturant when you take the tour. I have read so many reviews, I forget where I read what!
