Paul Hamm will keep the gold!!

I just saw this on CNN - I'm so glad for him!:Pinkbounc

Where's the sommersaulting smiley when you need it?

Personally, I think he should have given it up when the error was discovered. He can keep his gold, but he didn't deserve it.

ITA AdventurerKat. I lost all respect for him when he opened his mouth!

Why on earth would he give up the medal that he worked his whole life for? He pulled off a courageous performance under an extraordinary amount of pressure and was awarded the Gold medal. Not to mention in a sport as subjective as gymnastics, he's probably had his share of bad calls that have not worked in his favor. I am so happy that this issue is now a non-issue, and this amazing athlete can enjoy the victory he so deserves. :)

Actually, the Korean's score was correct. There were TWO tabulation errors in figuring his start score. One in his favor and one not in his favor. It was a wash. If both errors were corrected, he would have gotten the same score.

Furthermore, at the individual finals, Hamm displayed that he really was an all-around gymnast by performing a near perfect routine after/during the crowd's near riot over the Russian guy's score. The same Korean fghting to prove he was the best all around gymnast in the world, folded under pressure and fell.

Hamm won fair and square. He totally deserves the gold, I'm glad he gets to keep it.

...not to mention the fact that the South Korean benefited from a judging error that would have negated the impact of the one that harmed him.

I disagree, I think he definitely deserved it. But if that's what you think...

I taught gymnastics for 16 years. I did lower level team. The first thing you learn is when to protest a score. The judges will go over everything with you right then. All upper lever gymnasts and coaches know this.

I am so very happy for Paul!!! And yes, there WERE 2 errors and so Paul did truly deserve it. Funny how the part about the error in the other guy's favor doesn't seem to be as widely known and yet the information was broadcast that same week about it.

I am so happy for Paul and my boys ( both gymnasts) are thrilled too!!! ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::
