Hi

I know what you mean. We get this from my parents and friends. My dh always gets from work colleagues how can you afford it. We cant and they are on double Bruces wages. They forget is my job is shift work and working as a Nurse its tiring so we do not spend our money on social life. Ok we do go out at times and the kids are never without but we prefer to spend our money on a family holiday to WDW. My mum is like why dont you move to a bigger house or decorate this or that. The way Bruce and I think the kids will thank us for holidays and wont thank us for always decorating.

I love FL and this is where we always want to go.

What a Bl###y cheek what right does anyone ask how you can afford it.:furious:
People do not realise what sacrifices you/I may go through for the little luxuries in life. For me personally I live for my holidays and work hard long hours to achieve them.
As far as holidays are concerned I always thought that the main objective of a holiday was to get away from the normal stresses and strains of life and do what YOU want to do, and for us Florida and Disney fits the bill perfectly.
What is wrong with living a fantasy life for a few weeks a year and if others want to spend time in another resort laying by a pool all day drinking Tetley's Bitter then fair play to them, if that is what floats their boat.
What a boring place this world would be if we all enjoyed exactly the same type of holiday and how crowded those resorts would be.

Beef over I hope you spend many more holidays in Florida if that is where you choose to stay!!!!:thumbsup2

I live in one of those places and really object to your comments This is the same prejudice we are talking about for disney in reverse

Exactly. Each to his own. I didn't mean to cause offence but I can't stand Tenerife.

You may not have meant to but you did nethertheless.

What is it about Orlando in particular that elicits such 'holier than thou' attitudes, I wonder? As others have pointed out, there are plenty of folks who repeatedly visit the same destinations, but they're not sneered at.

I remember being stuck in traffic on the motorway with my boss and collegue. We started talking about Weddings and Honeymoons and my boss said that he couldn't think of anywhere worse than Florida to go for your honeymoon - I dithered for about 5 seconds and then thought 'stuff it' and told him that's where we'd been!

I know 5 parks in 6 days wouldn't be everyones idea of fun but we loved our Disneymoon :)

Each to their own though - I especially 'enjoy' the opinions of people who have never been and have no idea about the range of things available to do

So rant away!

We did the same -we had a month in Florida got married (3 weeks Orlando 1 week Clearwater) doing exactly what we wanted, a party when we returned and it still didnt cost the same as an english wedding.

Its usually the people who have never even been that cant understand the attraction of Disney and its magic. I'm happy they stay away - more fun for us and less queueing! :rotfl:

Yes this is a funny one isn't it? It's like a sort of snobbery. Is it because it's America, and they speak English, so you can't pretend you are going somewhere to immerse yourself in "culture", do you think? I think part of it is also that they are jealous that we are all clearly still in touch with our inner child!
We tend to go to Orlando every other year, and for our holiday in the summer in between we get a cheap self-catering place in Switzerland, cos we love those mountains. This usually works out much cheaper than if we got a similar place in the UK, and then we fly with Easyjet, but when we tell people about this holiday we get the opposite reaction to that we get when we tell them about Orlando. Strange.

I think all of us who keep going back to Orlando get this. I just say that it's the one place we can all go and have fun as a family, since we are not into sitting burning on a beach all day and we like to be active. That usually shuts up the snobs.

Jealousy? :confused3

When we went to Cornwall two years running no-one remarked on it, neither did they when we went to IOW two years in a row - but mention a repeat Disney holiday and it's a different story.

I think the people who havent been there picture WDW as being like the local funfair with people dressed up in mouse costumes!! Another question I always get asked is "what do you do for two weeks there, dont you run out of things to do?!"

WHAT ARE YOU SAYING THEY DON'T SSSSSSSSHHHH WHY THATS WHAT I AM GOING FOR,I SPENT £65 ON THE FULL WORKS I HAVE EARS TO DIE FOR YOU WOULD BE SO JEALOUS AND MY TAIL WELL.UUUUHHHH I'M GUTTED :sad2:

I get that from work, just ignore it now,

they all seem to go to cyprus lol

If anybody ever said to me they were off to WDW again .....i'd be so jealous! I'd want to talk about it and ask what they were planning to do.

The people who roll their eyes are the one's who have never been. Lets face it - if they had and were given the chance to go again - who would ever say no!

I can't wait until my girls are old enough to go to Florida.. but until then it's DLRP!

My sister has been to Holland for her summer holiday every year since 2002 (except for one summer in Belguim - now she goes to Belgium in February). I would love the chance to go to WDW more often, but equally there are lots of other places I want to go. Horses for courses - as you say, until those poeple who moan are paying then they can keep their views!

But wouldn't you love to see the world!!?? :confused3

(Tenerife - All day English breakfast, Torremolinos - straw donkeys, Cyprus - dead horses at side of road, Ibiza - drunken chavs and karaoke bars, Etc etc.)

There is more to Tenerife than that. Sure the touristy areas of Spanish/Med destinations can be a bit 'stereotypical Brit oriented' but if you look further afield there are some real gems to be found. For example we walked around a volcano in Tenerife, amazing experience :) I probably wouldn't go there again as there are other places i'd like to visit more but I don't regret it.

I'm only going on my 3rd trip to Orlando (still an amateur compared to many of you ;-) and i've still had a few 'AGAIN?!' type comments. If they want to go themselves and find out some info i'm happy to help but otherwise I wish they wouldn't criticise my choices (funded by my own money might I add!!)

I know what you mean- espically with the roll of the eyes when you say," im stopping at wdw again or I'm doing the Disney cruise again".

One other comment that always gets my goat is when that is followed with " but you don't have kids?"

We love to travel and experience new places. In February we are visiting Marbella and im really looking forward to it. However our hearts will always belong to Florida & WDW.

One thing I would say is that I think Disney and in particualr the DVC has spoilt us. We have found that the standard of the accomadation and service has always been excellent. When we do visit other places we do compare them to Disney.

Perhaps it is jealousy that causes the roll of the eye!

In 2007 I have told people that we are cruising around the med - someone said "oh well that will be a nice change from disney for you" - I haven't told them its on the Disney ship !!I just smiled to myself ;)

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, MrsJ! :thumbsup2 That's certainly how DH and I feel. Plus it's nice to have the certainty that your hard-earned cash is going to deliver the quality of holiday you really expect/deserve. We have had some truly horrendous experiences renting villas etc and part of the WDW experience for us is knowing everything is going to be up to scratch. Hope you like Marbella BTW - we go there most years and have a wonderful time... :cool1:

To be honest I'm happy to go anywhere! I truly love travelling, I can return again and again to Spain and discover new areas, after all Spain is so convenient (I wish Disney had put the euro park there) My clients think its hilarious when they ask me about my travel to the caribbean, Africa, Canada and India etc and when they ask where's my favourite place I always reply Walt Disney World.
