How long did it take for you to dry up? It's been a week and a half and still engorged and in pain! I don't remember with my first child, I don't think it was but a couple of days!

I weaned off slowly so it was more gradual and natural. I didn't have more than one night of engorgement. My supply was very good with keeping up with the demand.

I remember a few nights that I had to release some pressure into the sink but within a day or so it would diminish. Did you quit cold turkey? Do you have any desire to pump for a week or two just to help your supply slowly diminish? I can't imagine what it would have been like just to stop. We started supplementing at 3 months and within 2 months just naturally stopped on our own.

Well with me, I could have been a "wet nurse" in the old days.:lmao:

I think it took 3yrs before I was not producing milk. That is what prompted me my early mammo's by my OBGYN.

I swear I could probably jump start them even today. I have the "cysts thing" in my breasts and I think that has something to do with it. I don't know.

Since that time I have talked with other mom's that have had the same issue so I don't feel like a freak anymore.

I gradually weaned and it still took me almost two weeks to completely dry up with both kids

It's nature's way of keeping your milk, just in case your baby is sick and unable to nurse, or unable to nurse for another reason....at least, that's what my mom the nurse told me.

I told her nature needs to get on the ball and dry up this milk now! :rotfl:

Unfortunately I have to have dental work done and never was able to properly pump so I had a pretty abrupt cut off. It took me a little over a week. I used warm compresses to help get over the engorging.

If it doesn't start clearing up you might be backed up-be careful you don't get an infection.

Actually, i did wean her gradually! I was diagnosed with Thyroid disorder and put on meds that started making me produce less milk. I completely dried up on the one side right away. After trying to nurse on one side for over a month, my daughter would only nurse for minutes and buck off freaking out, so I always had to supplement to satisfy her. When I went to her 6
month check up she was only in the 2% for weight which prompted me to start weaning and give up the dream that I could continue nursing that way ( I did get to 7 months). It has been over a week and I am still producing though!

I nursed for approx. 22 months and weaned gradually..i took a good 2-3 weeks until it dried up.

It was a good month to get the supply down each time for me, and over a year for the milk to completely go away.

That is exactly why I had to stop nursing my 2nd.
I slowly weaned my other two and I don't think it took more than 2-3 weeks to completely dry up with any of them.

I stopped cold turkey with one kid and gradually with the other two. In all cases the painful obvious problems were only a week or two.

However, months later --- put me near a crying baby and I'd be feeling those milk glands wanting to kick back in.

try putting cabbage leaves on your breasts. if i remember correctly it will help them dry out.

I nursed all 3 girls each at least a year and it took a long time, 4-6 weeks, to be totally dry and not leak when I heard a cry or bent over.

I look completely ridiculous! I am probably an A cup on the right and a C on the left! :scared1:

My youngest is almost 7 so my memory isn't fresh but I with each one it took a few days. However it didn't take a week and a half. Hope it gets better for you soon.
