My passport expires in May 2007. We usually visit WDW every 2 years, so this Sept will be the last time that I will use this passport to visit the US.

With the new visa rules coming into affect for passports issued after 26th Oct 2005, would I be better off renewing my passport now?

That would mean I would be able to travel for the next 10 years on the visa waiver program.

Can you renew a paasport that hasn't expired yet?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Check the Passport Service website, but I think you can carry over up to 9 months of unexpired time from an old passport to a new one.

Yeah you can renew a passport even if its not run out. They will add an extra up to 9 months on it depending on how long it has left to run.
I would get one before oct if i was you.

I have only had mine for one year(10 year passport) im getting mine changed now into my married name.Another £42 but i don't want to have my maiden name for the next 9 year's on it.I'm hoping they will add the full 9 months onto it.

No it will only go up to the original expiry date, unless due to expire soon. I got my passport in Feb 98 and got married in 2001 so updated my passport and it still expires ten years to the day of when the previous pasport was issued.

I wouldn't worry about the Visa Waiver scheme, it only requires passports to be issued before October 2005 if they are not biometric.
The Passport Office expects to issue biometric passports later this year and will definitely issue them before you will have to renew yours.

Daniel

Out of the form that comes with your passport.

Changes-You new passport will be valid for 10 year's and up to a further nine months depending on how much valid time you had left on your passport.

I took that to read, that my passport would be valid for 10 year's and 5 month's.for an example.

While you on claire,do you still need you photo's counter signing even if you just renewing?

Thanx
Vicky

I don't think they do as long as your look has not drastically changed!

Perhaps they have changed it since 2001 then?

Claire ;)

I suppose it's possible they have changed it.

Thanx claire.

I am somewhat surprised travelers from the UK need a passport to the USA. Since we dont require either Canadans or Mexicans to have passports, but then again 90% Mexican use tunnels or wholes in the fence.

I got married 5 weeks ago and sent my passport off to get a new one in my married name. I had 4 years to run on the old one.

They sent me my new passport with my married name on it but it only has 10 years on it from when it was issued they did not give me the extra 9 months.

I think you only get the extra 9 months if you are renewing a passport with no name changes or anything on it.

Canadians have an acceptable photo i.d. card.
We however think that a photo i.d. is an intursion into our lives, even though we have
photo passports
photo driving licences
photo work passes
student union photo cards
various credit cards (some have photo id on them, but not many)
various photo club cards.........

Can somebody please explain to me if I need to change my passport before next August then, I currently have a 10 year machine readable passport that runs out in 2008, I know it is ok to use for my trip this August, but will I have to renew it before next August when we go again.

Any help would be gratefully received.

I don't think there will be any need you have a machine readable passport which will last to 2008. Your next passport will be a biometric one if everything goes to plan.

Mine was due to run out in May 2005, we choose to get in renewed early in August 2004 to avoid the need to get a biometric one after October 2004. The passport office just added about 9 month's of the unexpired time on to the new one's 10 years.
