passports???

were getting ready to cruise on the Wonder in sept for 3 days my ? is do we need/have to have passports as all 6 of us going do not & its only 159 days out .....starting to get nervous about what we do need for the cruise never been on one before we go to Disney yearly if not twice a year please help!!!

This is what we were told:
All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with a valid passport, or a certified birth certificate (with official raised seal) and picture identification.
I would check with the travel agency to be sure.

We just got back from a Jan cruise and did not need passports. We needed a state ID or drivers licence(for adults) and certified state certificate. The kids only needed their certified birth certificate.

Travel by Air: All U.S. citizens are required to present a valid U.S. passport in order to enter or re-enter the United States when travelling be air. U.S. citizens do not need visas for short trips to The Bahamas for tourist/business purposes. It is important to note that although the Bahamian government only requires proof of citizenship and identity in order to enter The Bahamas, the U.S. government requires that Americans have a valid passport in order to fly home. Most airlines will not permit a U.S. citizen to fly to The Bahamas without a valid U.S. passport and risk getting stranded.

Travel by Sea: Americans may enter the Unites States from The Bahamas by sea using a passport, passport card, or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document.

For the cruise, no.

However if you have any type of emergency or miss the ship at a port then you have to have one to fly home. So you have to weigh the risks and benefits. I am not a risk taker so we got them before our first 4 day cruise. You can think "what are the odds that I would need them?" But all it takes is one slip on the pool deck to end up with a broken arm or leg, or step on a glass bottle, or any of a thousand things that could require them to leave you at the port for medical care.

The reality is that you probably won't need them. But it is like buying insurance. You buy it hoping you never have to use it, but if you do need to you are really happy to have it!
