Passport Required?

I recently got a phone call from my TA saying that Disney requires the birthdates & passport numbers of me & my three family members who are going on a DC in November. While this won't pose a problem to us, has this been asked of other Canadian travellers on a DC? I was also curious to find out what would happen if a Cdn traveller DIDN'T have a passport -- they're not required for travel into the States.

I've never been on a Disney cruise, but I know that you need to have a passport for any cruise since you will be entering other countries while on the cruise. I assume that this is just standard policy so that they have this info before the cruise starts to make things easier. I hope you have a great time on your cruise. Some day I hope to be able to take one with Disney.

Yes I too have heard that you indeed need a passport as you will be entering different countries along your cruise. Have a wonderful time! Wish I could go too!

According to the DCL website you need either a passport or photo id and birth certificate. Either way you will be required to turn them over to DCL personnel (supervised by US Customs & Immigration). We are going on a Disney Magic Cruise in January and I would greatly suggest calling DCL. Their phone #is 1-800-951-3532. I have been told in talking with a number of DCL CM very different answers regarding the passports, use of and surrendering them. Also note that when returning to Canada, after a trip that included entry to a country that requires a passport for Canadians to enter, customs/immigration can or will ask to see your passport for re-entry back home.

When we went on the cruise in April, they asked for our passport numbers when we booked the trip. Sorry I do not know what would happen if you did not have a passport. I certainly didn't want to chance being told I would not be allowed to get on the ship.

when we sailed in Aug 2000, we did not need a passport, but since the recent events, I've been told that a passport is necessary for the cruise. A friend tried to book but they would not take her reservations until she could provide passport numbers. Probably not such a bad idea.

WOW, I think we'll get passports anyway. How do kids get passports?

Two ways kids can get passports. You can have them added to one of their parent's, but then they can't travel with just parent A if they're in parent B's passport. Or get the special applications for kids available at any post office and fill them out. Cost will be $60 plus photo. It's gonna cost us almost $300 for passports for the four of us, by the time you factor in all the costs for photos, etc. I just hope it makes crossing the border smoother (not that we've ever had a problem without passports).

I've heard (through the proverbial rumour mill) that Canadian driver's licence and birth
certificate will no longer be sufficient for entry into the United States - better get those
passport applications in the mail.

Check your local municipality to see if there is a personal drop off centre - you can attend
there and file personally (you will need to take your completed application, birth certificate
passport photo (certified by a guarantor) and $60 fee). If you attend personally your
birth certificate will be returned to you immediately - if you file by mail your original birth
certificate is required and you will be without it for about a month.
